Ducati Monster 620 Fuel Injector Issues

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Mathias2, Sep 27, 2023.

  1. I can't remember which ECU is fitted to the Monster, but yes it should be possible. Be careful how you open it, you might find a lot of corrosion in there..

  2. I can tell that it is supposed to open, but can’t for the life of me slide the top off. I can’t see a release tab but it sure feels like there is one.

  3. I think it's an IAW59 or 5A ECU. There are 2 connectors. From memory you need to unclip the toggle fastener and unwind the tape at the cable entry. (I think) there is a small nipple that you have to depress to allow the cover to slide off towards the cable entry. It's a while since I was last in one so I could be wrong.

  4. Grr… I was able to get the top of that wire harness off quite easily once I took off the fastener and pulled out two little tabs on the sides. I pulled that yellow keeper out and removed both ground wires with a little pin. They looked perfectly fine, no corrosion or damage! I thoroughly cleaned them and applied dielectric grease. When I reinstalled them and turned the bike on with a multimeter to the injector wire harness, I still got the same voltage. I did a resistance test on both ground wires and they both read 0.2 ohms. I was able to get an alligator clip to the end of the ground wires while they were plugged in and I clipped that onto the frame. Guess what, when I turned on the bike with a multimeter to the injector wire harness, I got 12 volts!

The same was true for both injector wire harnesses!

No corrosion, no bad wiring. In my eyes it has to be an ECU problem. If this is the case -

    a. Where do I find a replacement ECU?

    b. Do I have to replace my ignition or something stupid because of the key chip immobilizer?

    c. Will I have to take the ECU and/or bike to the dreaded dealership?

  5. A friend put a race ECU into our 2004 m1000.... I'm sure there's folks on here who can supply a suitably mapped ecu

  6. I found this, not sure what to think of it. The watermark in the picture kinda throws me off. What say you?

  7. Which ECU is your 620 fitted? You will find the details under the white paper labels on the the ECU. Peel them back to reveal the Magneti Marelli labels. Drop me a PM with details.

  8. Okay got it. I have no idea how to start a conversation with someone. If you could message me then I will respond with the details.

I still want an opinion on that race ecu if anybody has any thoughts.

  9. We fitted the race ECU as I'd thrown the clocks away (long story) and at the time the ECU needed to see the clocks to be active) , needs a map putting in obviously but the chap did that for me . Chas, used to spanner for James Thompson in Desmo due races.

  10. If these could be answered that would be great.

    b. Do I have to replace my ignition or something stupid because of the key chip immobilizer?

    c. Will I have to take the ECU and/or bike to the dreaded dealership?

You can get a 2nd hand ECU refreshed to remove the immobiliser requirement.

    c. Will I have to take the ECU and/or bike to the dreaded dealership?
If you choose the above route - no.

  12. What will I have to do if I buy a new ECU?

  13. Not with a race ECU is my understanding, plug and play, it effectively removes the immobilizer which is why we did it ( I'd thrown the damaged clocks) you need to get someone ( Chris??) To put your map in the race ECU though or a map he has?

  14. Try pm'ing the @chrisw a few threads up, there are some ECU experts on here

  15. I don’t know how to PM

  16. Let me try again on a computer.

  17. He should pick this up as I've tagged him, if not let me no know and I'll pm him, think you can't pm until you've done so many posts ? @Ducbird
