Garmin Zumo Adaptor Plate

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Burnsey, Mar 31, 2022.

  1. Just bought the OEM high level sat nav mount and the base plate leaves me having to mount the Zumo XT at 90 degrees.

I guess someone is making an adaptor plate - any pointers please?

I have searched and looking specifically for suppliers for the adaptor, not changing the bracket etc, which members refer to Desmo Dave, buit can't see he's been active recently

  2. Desmo Dave doesn't appear to be on the forum any more, last posted Dec 2020, hope he's OK.

There's a thread that mentions a Ducati part that does the same thing by the looks of it, part number 97611851AA. Advertised on eBay but the shipping is silly money. Try your Ducati dealer, as an official part they should be able to get it for you. From what i can see, like Dave's bracket, it replaces the plastic part on the mount with a metal bracket that turns the hole pattern through 90º. Hopefully the holes are the correct AMPS spacing in horizontal form that will match most Garmin sat navs such as the 590. 595 and XT.

  3. Cheers, that doesn't work with the Zumo, which is why I think one of the members here produced something.

I think I'll return and have a simple handlebar solution for now.

  4. Was going to see Dave today but it's his day off. As far as I know, all's well. Andy

  5. Not sure why you think that?

The poster on that thread was trying to fit a std Zumo 396. Looking at the Garmin manual for that, in this post and here, it shows a RAM AMPS pattern baseplate. All regular Garmins, including all those I've owned StreetPilot 2720, Zumo 660, Zumo 590 and the Zumo XT use that, your XT will have come with one in the box. Don't worry that the RAM page doesn't have the XT listed, it fits the XT cradle. AMPS is, effectively, the industry standard hole spacing.

  6. I seem ungrateful and I don't mean to be, but the XT mount is an odd one and from what I can fathom, only works at 90 degrees. It is set to AMPS standard, but rotated, so essentially expect I need an AMPS plate, with 4 additional holes to suit the XT mount.

I've returned the OEM part now and ordered an EvoTech handlebar solution, which for three or four months until the new bike lands will be fine.

  7. Didn't detect an element of ingratitude, don't worry. Just trying to help, I've been there with frustrations on the Ducati mount and thankfully Desmo Dave was there, in my case, with a solution.

The XT cradle is normal and the same as all the other Garmins that I've owned in so much as it uses the rectangular AMPS pattern horizontally. The 395, as sold by Ducati as their navigator was the oddball along with the mount, as you've found, with the hole pattern orientated vertically. The Ducati plate 97611851AA, like Desmo Dave's one, switches the hole orientation from vertical to horizontal to work with the Zumo 396, as mentioned here. The 396 shares the AMPS orientation with all other Garmins worthy of mention including the XT.

If you look at the Gamin documentation pertaining to installation for the 395, 396 and the XT the oddity of 395 is plain to see and the reason that Ducati came out with the accessory plate.

Anyway, hopefully my mansplaining reasoning can stay here to maybe help someone else in the future.

  8. Unfortunately the return has taken place, however, the OEM bracket is readily available, so have ordered the part you refer to.For the sake of twenty quid, it's worth it.

    I shall report back...

  9. I have a high level Navihalter for the DVT or 1260 with the Zumo mounting plate if anyone else is looking for a solution.
    Mounts above the clocks.

  10. hi I’m interested on how you got on I’ve just bought the xt and my bike came with the high level mount fitted which my old zumo just fitted into. Did the plate work?

  11. Yes, worked a treat. Easy and simple to have the XT in landscape mode.

  12. Cool did you get it from Ducati?

  13. It was a long time ago, but no, from a parts supplier as recommended on here, but pretty sure it’s an OEM part, so you should be able to.

I sold the bike a year ago now.
