Just out of curiosity, would a 200+hp SuperSport V4S be of interest? (Thumbnail as an example) Would you trade-in your SF or any other Ducati for it? All comments welcome. Share your views.
I've been there and I loved my previous Panigale but riding it where it was intended (the track) was getting prohibiting both in time and money. I want a Panigale proxy for the street that's not as wristy with a more relaxed triangle.
I don’t feel the need for 200bhp. I’d be more than happy if they put the Multistrada engine in the Supersport and increased its physical size a bit. 170bhp sports tourer with long service intervals, yes please.
It's the wind protection that lacks for me. Otherwise the SFV4 would be fine. Love the Pani but the ergos are too aggressive for the street.
I agree & recently sold my BMW R1250 GS to use my SFV4S more on the roads. I find the naked SF is better for ergos and especially wind buffeting & noise that these larger adventure style bikes. Much of it is related to you kit & helmet, but having spent over a week across around and back from the Isle Of Man there were no ergo issues and for sure less wind noise that these bigger bikes for me.
That's exactly it. Actually the size also. I had no buffeting with my Panigale. My Monster 1200R has perfect ergos (like the SFV4) but no wind protection. The Multistrada 1260 is super comfy but it's big. It dwarf's the Monster.
I rode the Multistrada V4S when my SFV4S was in for service and really didn't like it one bit. The motor felt weedy which is a bit ridiculous, but with the Desmosedici Stradale motor you feel every pulse & then there's the 208 bhp. Also the amount of unnecessary plastic/fairings etc just made it all feel a bit naff. in fact the lesser powered GS was/is a better road/adventure bike and that's even more the case now perhapas with the new 1300 released. I really thought this Multi RS could be the peach in the range, but look at the motor output figures. Why not use the full fat motor output - reason enough to stick with the SFV4S!
@V4Marky My local Ducati dealer's GM was aching for me to test the SFV4 at the time. For whatever reasons, I was never there when it was available. I already can visualize the screaming top-end power of the SFV4's engine. What I really want to know is how the Desmosedici Stradale compares to the Testastretta 1260 V2 engine in the low to mid-range.
I have had x2 KTM 1290 SDR & the 1290 SAS - these things have the best torque low down then run out of puff higher up the rev range. The V4 motor for me has just about the same punch, but rev's it's threepenny bits off right up to >14k and this is where the real rush is. Honestly it's hard just hanging on up the top and you gotta be ready for it. I suspect the 1260 motor is like a slighly de-tined 1290 motor so actually very different over 5-6k..
That's how I initially felt about mine......it was competent, did everything really well but it didn't have character and didn't stir the soul. Then on a trip to Scotland a mate told me I was missing a trick and told me to ride it like a sports bike. The following day I did just that and the thing was absolutely transformed. It's fantastic when it hits 6.5/7k revs. I'd give it another go if I were you
I'm taking mine to Scotland next April & then to the TT again. I'd really like a bigger fuel tank and cruise control to make this bike perfect..
I did exactly the same thing, with the same bikes. I know there is additional wind on the SF, obviously, but at the same time because it's constant and not buffeting like was mentioned on the GS I actually find I'm far less aware of it while riding as a result. And it doesn't make my neck wore or anything like that, which was my worry.
Great minds and all that. I'm not remotely tempted by the new GS13, but a SDR1300 with cruise and a bigger tank maybe.. Failing that I'll just get an SFV4SP next time!
