I looked up a link for Tony James who was mentioned in a post on here and see he offers a bespoke 3M kit for the V4 Pikes Peak. I had XPEL Pro applied to my Panigale V4 in 2018 as, at that time, it was billed as the market leader. Google still puts XPEL first but I am wondering if the technology has moved on. The 3M kit looks pretty easy to apply yourself but the XPEL Pro 10 year warranty that comes with professional installation is very attractive (at double the price). What is the collective’s most recent experience ? Andy
On bikes I think its a waste of money. Chances are a there won't be any issues that you can't polish out. Helo tape by 3m is great for protecting your fuel tank from zips, swinging key fobs on an older bike or even the front of fork legs. On a classic high value rare car its a completely different story -imo.
Try Invisible Patterns bud. https://www.invisiblepatterns.co.uk/ They did mine, but sell kits too. They use their own brand of PPF and I've found it consistently good.
We have a difference of opinion but that’s fine . In this instance, I’m looking to protect the frontal area of the bike from stone chip damage. Andy
Always had 3M VentureShield on my Multis fitted by Race By Design - Motorcycle Paint Protection in East Grinstead. No issues except after time some edges get a little bit of dirt in them on the front fenders.
lant I has paint protection film installed by Tony James on a Multistrada 1200 a few years back. Excellent job using his own bespoke kit. Highly recommended.
I bought the full kit for my PP from Tony James, great quality and instructions, I rang him a couple of times and he was very helpful. Some parts of the film went on in seconds, the nose cone took a bit of patience, I ended up doing all the front, forks, mudguard, lights, nose cone etc. it’s done the job on the forks. Although the tank was easy personally a waste of time, none of your body or clothing rubs on the tank, even my long legs, but it does keep it nice and shiny. The sides panels were a pig, after a lot of swearing I gave up. I’ve got some pieces left, happy to send them to you as a sample…
I’ve also got the TJ stuff on mine. It’s very good, however, when the bike went in for a new tyre in France, the twat lifted some of the film with the jet wash, so I need to order some replacement parts. The panels under the film are brand new, as you’d expect. If I was doing it again, I’d probably only protect the front of the bike, as the side panels aren’t in the firing line, and should stay as new.
+ 1 for Tony James, I bought a kit for my V4 Pikes Peak, you need to take your time and lots of patience to apply it, but once done it’s well worth it. I got all the pieces on and you can barely tell it’s there Great quality kit and the chap is very helpful with any advice you need
I've bought kits from these guys before: DUCATI - Chipguard UK Fairly easy to apply, be sure to thoroughly wet you hands before peeling off the backing and have plenty of water sprayed on the bike then squeegee out.
He did two of my bikes, I’d recommend him. Another one local to me is these guys, I might get them to do the Monster when it arrives https://www.auto-protek.com/
I got the TJ kit and am very happy. I screwed up one piece on the beak, ended up speaking with Tony and he was kind enough to send with a new top box kit. Great support and he did a pair of reflective panels for the panniers.
They've done some work on my car, so when I was last there, had a tour round the manor. We watched The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar the other day, and were surprised to see some of it was filmed there!
Does anyone have the product code for 3M helicopter tape please? It's not that easily found in France. Thx!
