As the weather is not suitable for riding I went about removing the sprocket cover to give it a good clean. It was a good job I did as the retaining bolt was almost out of the shift due to being incorrectly torque loaded. Again I find more things wrong with the bike after only having it for a few weeks and doing less than 80 miles(75 of those were to Ducati Stoke to get the recent engine faults rectified).
Should have a peeled over thingie, so it can't undo. A proper person will be along for the correct name'
I know what you mean but these bikes have a thick washer and rely on the torque of the bolt to keep it tight
They don’t have a tab washer. It wouldn’t work on a round allen bolt. It relies on the correct torque loading.
I’ve just remembered the big black washer underneath the Allen bolt is what you call a Belleville washer, it’s dished and should be fitted convex face outward so that when you tension the bolt it tries to flatten the washer and hence puts preload on the bolt, check it out and also Loctite and a serrated lock washer will do the trick, belt and braces
That’s right. I know them as a convex spring washer to do exactly as you say. When I’ve fitted my 520 conversion I’ll make sure the bolt and washer are fitted correctly
Round head Allen bolt is correct, item 32… If you refit it as I’ve described it won’t give you any more problems You weren’t at Teessdale motorcycles at Thirsk a week or so ago were you ?? I was chatting to a guy down there who had recently got an 1199 and was having a few problems with it??
