This is an Ohlins shock from a 1198s, has anyone seen this before. Looks like its had a bit filled away and two holes drilled, the bigger hole is threaded and the holes don't go all the way through to the other side. Pretty sure its not normal does anyone have an idea why? Thanks
Ok thanks, I thought it looked non standard. Im supposed to be buying this shock but not sure that should put me off or not
Just means it’s been on a race/track bike at some point in its life. Probably seen less compression/extension than a road only shock of a similar age. Andy
Thanks could be a good buy then, condition wise it certainly doesn't look its age only a few light marks on it. Its from a ebay seller who has a lot of Ducati parts often some pretty rare stuff. He says the shock has had a recent service/rebuild and a new spring but no info on who did it or paperwork, it came of a late 1198s. Its going on my 848 evo, theres a good suspension place about an hour from me (FTR) so will drop it in there next week and let them check it out, if all ok I'll have it set up for me if no good I have 30 days to return it. Price was £420
I tried a few different shocks on my 1098 and these OEM ohlins on the 'S' Models were pretty poor . Not Much better that the bog standard showas even after a full rebuild Better spend a little more and find a TTX ( or maxton nitron Wilbur's etc)
Thats doesn't sound good, I did look at a new Nitron but having spoken to them I was informed there shocks wont fit my bike as I have a full Termi system. I was tempted to buy a new TTX but at £1500 I cant really justify it, pretty rare to find a used one for my bike
I don't do track days anymore although might do the odd one if I get the bug again. Im looking at changing the shock as i'm only about 80kg kitted up so the original Showa is like riding with concrete tyres, rather than spend money having the Showa rebuilt and re sprung I thought id buy the Ohlins. Im in two minds now if to send it back and wait a while and put the money towards a new TTX
Looking at the shock it has DU520 stamped on it, anyone know if this is the standard Ducati/Ohlins version. Cant seem to find any info on it
