  1. 1993 carby 900SS, owned by me from new. At around 10,000 miles I took it to Chris Clarke and had them convert to 944 - new barrels and pistons, carb dyno kit, rear cans which breathe better. It gave an already torquey bike a shed load more of torque. I put another 5,500 miles on it as a 944, and then life changed around 2000 and it has sat in the garage since. I’ve been wanting/hoping to get on with a refurb, but have come to realise it’s not looking likely any time soon, and so it is better for the bike to go to someone who has the time to refurb. The petrol tank acquired pinholes, so I bought a second hand tank which is good, but will need the taps and filler cap from the old tank transferring across. The motor has been turned over during storage, but not started, and it would be wise to put new belts on before starting. It’s all there, but shows signs of standing for 20 years. The original barrels, pistons and end cans are in a box somewhere in the garage. A good spanner person could probably have it running within a week, but it deserves a proper refurb/winter project. I don’t think there is any need to buy much, beyond the obvious things like belts etc. There are no cracks in the frame or swinging arm etc. It’s TLC and time that it needs.

Does £ 1000 sound reasonable (I paid a few hundred for the tank!!)

    I’m located in West Midlands

  2. Can you post a few pictures ? Red I presume
Sounds like a good winter project

  3. Will do, will have to drag it out. Yes, red with the big fairing. There’s also a single seat unit with twin tail lights that I bought, still in its box, never fitted.

  4. if complete then sounds a bargain even without pictures.

  5. Sounds a little on the low side if you only want 1K. You might realise more money on eBay?

  9. Hi, the single seat alone maybe worth £200 ish. Don't rush to sell it. £1000 is too low. I don't want to buy it.

  11. They certainly have, 24hrs and still holding my breath…..
Although to be fair the poster does live in Shropshire which is rather water logged as all the rain didn’t get thrown on Wales.

  12. Anyone heard from the OP?

  14. Sorry for delay, rain stopped play, but it was good enough yesterday to drag bike out and take photos. God it’s tough, every atom in my heart wants to ride that bike again but my brain says it has to go - I’m getting on a bit and really need to make sure any time for fun is well spent. I don’t want to go down the eBay tyre kicker road as someone mentioned, and it’ll be criminal if it spends more years lying in a garage. I’ll sleep better knowing it went to a good home where it will breathe again, and knowing someone got a good feeling from a good price. I’ll go through the PM’s today/tomorrow and send on photos.

  15. I always say follow your heart when it comes to bikes.
My plan, if I buy it, would be to get it back to A1, if that’s not viable then do something like Steve E’s retro 900ss.
If you want to ride it after it is done that makes a story.

  16. Bike now sold. Apologies for not replying individually to each person who PM’d me, there were so many it seemed easier to make a post here. I was surprised at the interest generated, which I guess I’d good news for the marque.
