Real World Crash Tested Gear Review

  1. I think I can speak on behalf of all of us when I say we hope you can get back on two wheels at some stage - and the freedom and exhilaration of motorcycling can still be in your future, even if it’s not on a sports bike :)

And bringing this thread back on topic…!

I’m re-evaluating my current RST two piece leathers, not sure if I need a one piece suit, but an airbag jacket might be a good idea.

Can I ask what the model was of your jacket that got tested at Snetterton?

  2. RST SABRE. I have the leather trousers that zip to it also. Here’s a link:-

AAA rated with airbag inflated. It’s a pretty relaxed fit, ideal for road. The leather is not as tough as the kangaroo skin on my one piece but I did not actually put any holes in it in my off. Having said that, I would not wear a two piece on track again. I only did it for a few afternoon sessions as the day was a scorcher and removing the jacket between sessions was much easier than struggling with a one piece.

  3. I've a mate who punctured his lung in a crash and he said the pain from the chest drain was incredible. I had no puncture ,just trauma and that was bad enough so take it easy

  4. JFC mate, very traumatic indeed. Hope you’re on the mend. Sincerely, get well soon…

I had a similar speed off at Donington just a week or two before you. Reading this I thank my lucky stars I just hobbled off. Mind you, I wouldn’t have minded ‘100mph crash’ on my bed notes. Slightly envious…

  5. Thank you for your post. Whilst it is never great to hear about the bad things when we are blasting about having fun. It is good to see that the right kit does do its job and is not just slick PR. Has made me think about improving my own safety with the amount of ends out there that think I am a magnet. Wishing you a speedy recovery

  6. Seems I missed this, wow, what a horrible experience. Thanks for taking the time to post up the analysis - it's been 25 years since I threw myself down tracks... Not looking to repeat that. Hope your recovery is thorough and you get your riding legs back soon

  7. I had an accident recently, but at much lower speed - 30mph. Was taking a sharper turn too fast (low experience). Luckily no big traumas, just scratches and bruises. Had cordura jeans and jacket with armor - that worked well. They are scratched but still wearable.
