Why make a bike keyless at all ? It's a pointless exercise in complexity , and thoughtless use of technology for it's own sake alone . We are talking about a 200 kg piece of kit that may have cost £30k , and that two or three men can easily pick up and put in the back of a transit van ..... never to be seen again . So who really benefits ? ...... Well it's yet another item to keep the cash registers ringing at the official dealers .... isn't it ?
love keyless and a knock off keyless fuel cap too. so much less hassle - but defo a first world issue
My biggest issue is the poor quality fasteners and captive nuts. It is a Rolls Royce of the bike world with Woolworth's fasteners I bought a Honda 250 in the early '70's and the first thing I did was to replace the horrid soft Phillips screws with Allen cupheads. 50 years on and bikes still have crap fasteners from new.
No you didn't. You replaced the JIS head screws with Allen Capheads. Show a JIS head screw a Phillips screwdriver and of course it will round out.
Would I be correct in thinking the mistake we all made was thinking they were Phillips but they were in fact the unfortunately named JIS screws (Japanese Industrial Standard). And they require their own screw driver.
I’ve got it on my triumph. I like it. But you do need a key for the steering lock (which I don’t use) although you can leave the fuel cap unlocked with the monza cap down over it. I like having the key in my jacket pocket zipped up safely and not needing to be fumbled for.
I agree completely ...... just walking towards it with the key in my hand still excites me , and makes my heart beat a little bit faster .....[ that's the "non-keyless" type of key BTW ... ] I can't really say that about any other bike that I've ever owned , and I've had this one for over 20 years .
i'm glad you posted this as reminds me that i was like this once, and encourages me to return to that state of mind again one day.
Fret not ! Help is probably available ( somewhere ? ) ...... and don't forget , Google is your friend ! But to be honest , I'm burgered if I can come up with any quick suggestions for that particular problem .
Very interesting, thank you, But as the tool kit came with the bike I don't think that was the issue. It was more to do galvanic corrosion I think. And the screws not being hard enough.
I forgot about the hilarious chain adjusting spanner. Never causing any skin off knuckles or swearing…
Get yourself a Aprilia MX125, so much fun in such a small package…….Lucky I’m very friendly with an owner of one and regularly get to test ride it should there be any suspicion that something is amiss. Although I’m not sure the intent when I’m told the brakes don’t seem to be working correctly.
not sure how to word this, firstly i am a Mito/Planet/Supercity man if it came to it, and although i will put one together one day, and agree will be exciting to ride again, the fun is still short-lived as not long before I worry about blowing one up as always ringing it's neck.
