Dead Battery?

  1. Not necessarily a Ducati related question but i guess it still applies...I went to start my Laverda this morning and just got a click from the starter, battery voltage is reading 10.5V, removed it from the bike and put it on the bench hooked up to my charger, it quickly gets up to past 12V but as soon as its disconnected it drops down rapidly to 10.5V again, i am more mechanically than electrically minded  ...so can someone confirm that this battery is kaput!?, or is it worth trying to bring back to life, or even possible to?....its a Wet Yuasa 53030 28ah BTW.

  2. It's definitely not going to work at 10.5V.

Might be recoverable with a conditioner / Optimate / Noco etc. But if you haven't already got one of them, then that's 2/3rd the cost of a new battery anyway. Might be worth asking around to see if you can leave it overnight on someone elses, before spending the cash if it's no rush.

  3. Thanks, i will probably just bite the bullet and splash out on a new battery.

  4. You could try and bring it back to life but in my experience you are only putting off the inevitable. Buy a new one that battery has had it.

  5. Sounds like the battery has a dead cell. It's unlikely a smart charger/maintainer can recover that so best bet is to buy a replacement battery.

  6. You are very lucky if your old battery has given up the ghost while you are at home. It might have chosen to pack up when you were 50 miles away in the dark, in the rain.

Take the hint, won't you, and treat your Lavvy to a brand new Yuasa.
