New Supermono Engine.

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by duke63, Oct 26, 2023.

  1. I know what it is now. And it’s expensive vs the direct competition.

  2. I think the new engine is really exciting. I could see it being put in a smaller capacity monster, sportsbike as well as the already-mentioned motard. Can't wait to see what it is!

  3. Who would have thought such a thing... as long as it's demonstrably better to ride & own rather than relying on the Ducati 'cache'.

I'd like to see a modern take on the 450s of yore... perhaps road, race & scrambler versions.

  4. The price difference (30%) will not justify any perceived ride improvements. That’s not my words btw.

  5. I should hope so. I don't want to see any common peasants riding a new Ducati.

  6. Here's the thing: we're mostly full of shit.
Many of us talk a good game around wanting a "new" Supermono, "I'd buy one in a heartbeat!" type stuff.....but when the rubber meets the road the talk inevitably devolves into "I'm not paying that!" and using cheaper suspension, aluminium wheels, abs fairings, more comfortable/bigger yada yada. And next thing you know the svelte 125kg Supermono becomes +150kg with emissions/ABS, starter motor, alternator that can supply more than just an ECU and fuel pump bolted on. (an unfaired Husky 701 weighs 145kg dry).
And we aren't going to pay a premium for something that is going to get blown into the weeds by much more mundane bikes. Who cares if you have a moral victory that you're only on a single cylinder middle weight, you probably paid more for the privilege and you're still sitting in the weeds.
"Supermono" is a nice blast from the past moniker and a cool bike back in the day but in an era where IL4 600's, the previous middle weight staple, are all but dead, very few of us would actually pony up to buy such a thing.

  7. I think this is going to be brilliant for UK roads. 398124497_10161477403818829_8873912350585688183_n.jpg

  8. There are some very naughty dealers out there.

  9. I own a GG700, purchased for 7K as it was a 100mile ex demo. I don’t honestly believe they’re worth much more than that.

I only really use it on B and unclassified roads, usually ride with my Son on his 125 SM.

It’s too big a lump to be a true SM, truthfully needs to be no bigger than a 450.

We’re going to put more off road biased tyres on for Winter and use them on lightweight forest trails.
I’m under no illusion that on a fast A road I would get beaten by me on my KTM 790 or MV800.

On the KTM/Husky/GG pages they’re hoping with the Ducati release that it will spur them to build a quicker SM across the brands.

It’ll be around 12k IMO I’ll keep with the GG and save some big money.

  11. It’s not what I wanted it to be.

  13. That’s what happens as we get old. The world moves on and we get left behind and become less relevant. Just embrace the fact that a lot of things are now someone else’s problem.
Aside from that I think the bike looks and sounds great. Can’t wait to try one.

  14. It looks good, but as Terry mentioned, the pricing is ridiculous. For not a lot more you can have the 950.

  15. Looks better than its direct competitor brand in this segment.
Nice it has a better grown up dash unlike my GG. Has better settings for ABS and such like ,the twin exhaust is a nice touch wish my GG had but the fuel tank location prevents.

    No Rally version though.

Hopefully KTM will improve their offerings.

  16. Looks like a hoot, I like it.

  17. Well yes, but they have to leave headroom for later discounting. Not to mention warranty claims.

  18. A few rumours I have seen that the 950 may be at the end of its life cycle.
Time perhaps to merge the 950 Hyper and 950 Multi into an SMT beater.

  19. Irrelevant.

  20. 904mm seat height, Marzocchi forks and Sachs rear shock. Not a chance, pointless and a missed opportunity IMO. Andy
