That is a bit of an eye opener, if, for nothing more than the exposé of the restrictive practises. Andy
Interesting vid. I thought he did downplay the ability to do both breathable & waterproof using the same materials, as getting rained on then finding the weather changes to dry is not unusual... But marketing is what it is. Dior, Dyson, Dunlop, even Ducati have proven this for decades. I find it hilarious when I get an update to my iPhone. They announce "new" features that I had on an Android 'phone five years ago! Think poster picture for contacts -which BTW the very first iphone did anyway...
Just my experience: I’ve had cycle and m/cycle waterproof gear from Gore and other makes that have waterproof membranes. I clean them following the label instructions. Only the Gore stuff after many years had remained waterproof. When the Goretex failed after 4 years on my Sidi ADV boots. They were replaced FOC. All the other companies when stuff started leaking, weren’t remotely interested in helping me.
…and they insist on a high standard of manufacture for the garment, as they will not associate themselves with tat. Also useful to know! I have Goretex proshell Rukka, 100% waterproof, not cheap though..
It was Gore’s own warranty; for the life of the product. Sidi just give you a year in the boot itself. Gore’s warranty was for the waterproof aspect.
Thats true... During Babet, the water level at Carsington increased by 450mm, which flooded the clubhouse and temporarily closed the bar! I imagine Storm Ciarán is not as bad -yet... . If Storm Babet was, as is being claimed "one of the infamous 1 in 100-year storm events", why we has Carsington experienced 4 of them in the past 23 years: - 2000, 2007, 2019 and now 2023 and quite likely a fifth this weekend?
TBH I can only see the weather deteriorating over the coming years. With global temperatures rising and more water vapour in the atmosphere stronger wind speeds and the foulest weather they bring are going to be more frequent. Once in a lifetime weather is back in the 80’s
It almost makes you yearn for the Eighties "the good 'ol days". Then you remember Thatcher the milk snatcher, Jimmy Saville bonked everyone's kids, and the Austin Princess was considered state of the art. Ugh. At least tears for Fears were on the radio!
I’m only good with the 80’s weather. Ironic how both of the people you mention are deplorable for shafting people. In a word Allegro….. The Clash and BAD were more my bag then.
Ah, Sandinista on the All agro 8 track? I hope you had Making Movies too, perhaps some Tom Petty and the breakthrough artist from the 'States -Brucie...
I’ve tried many over the years from cheap plastic waterproof coats to fill in goretex. Ime only goretex has actually been waterproof and stayed the test of heavy rain and water. Gloves being the only time I’ve had an issue but after hours in torrential rain I always look for goretex
On a 6 disc CD player, those 8 track ‘books’ were massive. I’m not much into American music from that period tbh.
