I'm a working class Scotts guy with the usual level of emotional constipation that you find in people of my background. My parents discouraged my emotion with phrases like "big boys don't cry" and "you're just being silly". I was like two or three and had already learned that crying was a deeply shameful act and so I've always had huge difficulty crying in front of people, regardless of the reason. This song is Senokot for my emotional constipation. (I really need to come up with some more appropriate imagery ). Eva Cassidy - sadly died at the age of 33. What a voice.
Brave of you to speak so openly Wally, and i like your unique analogy. Goes without saying that self-medication to achieve what you describe will vary so much for people. This is a "nearly" for me now, mainly due to overplaying for over 40 years.
Love it. It’s the only part of the opera I know. I first heard it on a BA advert. I once learned to play both parts on the guitar. They are simple parts but make for a nice guitar duet on electric.
My dad was a working class Jockish guy and that was played at his cremation. My sis chose it but he would have approved (I chose Smokestack Lightning, and he'd have approved of that, too).
