Hi all. The ABS warning light came on during a ride at the weekend on my 1199. I braked quite heavy for a red light and I think it came on after that. The roads were a bit mucky so I have tried to clean the sensors in situ best I can. All the cables look fine and the connections to the ABS pump look clean and dry. Stumped what else I can check or do before I get it looked at professionally. Any ideas? Thanks
I've seen a few 1199 with Nicks to the front wheel speed sensor, please also check its located correctly underneath the front mudguard as this is where I have seen problems.
If the cable comes out of its clips under the front mudguard it is prone to getting snagged by the tyre.
New tyres were put on when I bought the bike 4 months ago. I did fit a carbon fibre front mudguard couple of months ago but made sure the cable was secured in the clips. Whether it is connected or not there has been a kind of clicking noise coming from what I thought was the clutch area occasionally but thought this was to do with a leaking clutch slave cyclinder. Could this be the abs pump on its way out?
Is the speedo working ok? If so, and it’s a sensor issue, then it’ll be the front one. As mentioned, they can rub the cable if it’s not routed correctly. Check around the tyre, the left side just under the rear of the mudguard is the most popular place. Doubt you’d hear any noises from the abs pump and it’s not connected to the clutch
Thanks. Yes the speedo is working. I will check the cable again. It is the only one that isn't braided.
i have a leaking clutch slave too ( i think) spoke to ducati and they said its the O ring where it bolts on, i will let you know if it works would a good inspection of brakes be a good idea? i mean remove calibers, check and clean pads, regrease (if you do) and pump through some new fluid, inspect everything (i have ABS completely removed and pump in/outs all capped off, plus 330mm discs, i get no ABS lights except on startup, and TBH i love it, so much more feel, would definitely endo no probs)
I had the slave cycle replaced with an Oberon unit. Looks like a full inspection of the brakes is the way to go unless the ABS light goes out of its own accord beforehand. I"m looking to upgrade the discs too.
Without plugging it into diagnostics to read the error that’s been recorded and caused the ABS light to come on you could waste a lot of time and money going down various rabbit holes. Do you know anyone with OBDStar? Or is there a local friendly and willing mechanic who has access to Texa? Note you may also need the diagnostics computer to extinguish the warning light too, once the issue has been resolved.
