This one just reeks of that delicious Sixties vibe .... From a distant age when having a big nose was a vital fashion accessory for anyone seeking success ........ ( is that Pete Townsend on the drums ? )
I'm not entirely sure of the meaning of better in this context... A highly polished & glib Hollywood film production using a highly polished off screen bunch of musicians by a highly polished group of actors who are acting the part of constant sorrow with a lead who is miming & not singing. OR Sung acapella by someone who was a coal miner, construction labourer and farmer for much of his life and suffered from asthma & emphysema and, I suspect, had a better idea of what a life of constant sorrow is (than any of us).
Even if you detest the group , you've surely got to love Lukather's guitar work .... ..... or possibly not ?
Some say that this song was a dig at John Lennon and his hippy idealism .... if so , it's got a very spooky prophecy in the lyrics "Unhand that gun begone There's no one to fire upon" and also..... "Anybody on the street Has murder in his eyes" Have a listen , with that in mind .....
