V4 Multistrada V4rs

  1. How does your dealer propose they'll road test your bike when it comes in for a service? Make sure you get them to sign your indemnity to confirm they won't ride it on the road.

  2. I know technically insurance is probably invalid when a race only type exhaust is fitted, most bikes I've owned generally get the full system treatment! But trying to be good with the current one.
Surely once the owner has to start signing bits of paper saying what they will and won't do on road bikes, that is a whole new ball game as the supplier will always have a copy, will that be available if requested by insurers etc if involved in an accident for example.

  3. What does the indemnity say? That you are aware the bike is no longer road legal or more than that?

  4. If police believe an offence has been committed I would think they can demand anything they want.
Ultimately I’m sure it down to the seriousness of any offence.
An RTA that includes a fatality or life changing injuries is where the law will have a lot of power.

  5. Wonder whether the insurance companies will catch up ‘you’ve signed a not for road use indemnity and refuse insurance’..

  6. Probably an element of that in there but I think the real pressure is coming from Governments an emissions and noise legislation. I don’t doubt companies in the auto industry are fully aware that Governments can get very tough with them if they wish.
Do any other manufacturers still sell race use exhausts direct? Triumph stopped it about 10 years ago.

  7. KTM do with Akrapovic, but at nothing like Ducati/ Akra prices. It's only us Ducati owners that are still daft enough to pay such high dealer exhaust prices

  8. I looked at the KTM site just. When they fit the exhaust and upload the map, it says you need to remove the indicators. I’m guessing that having indicators fitted means the map will not work and thus the bike will not run. At least that’s how I read their website.

  9. Didn't realise that, I had a full titanium system fitted on my SDR1290, but that was a couple of years ago when nobody bothered!

  10. If buying a full system from guys like Calsport, are those stamped non road legal, and do they get you to sign an indemnity?

  11. All the ones I've had have always been stamped, haven't bought one for a few years so never had to sign anything. A Yoshi I had got round it the best, it said in the instructions to remove the sticker before use, as once it got hot it stuck itself on and was really hard to get off

  12. I’ve just had a look on Calsports website, and there’s no mention of legal or not, on the systems I’ve looked at. My current bike with full system is insured, it clearly states the full racing exhaust on my insurance documents, but I’m buggered if I’m going to start signing disclaimers moving forward, as they will definitely wriggle out of a payout should the worst happen.

Will investigate further, but if those are road legal, then Ducati have shot themselves in the foot, as I’m sure they’ll be losing a lot of money from people like me that buy one or two bikes a year.

All this because of a bit of extra noise. Sigh.

  13. For any exhaust to be road legal it must be e marked or whatever the current legislation is.

  14. Or you could just stick with the road legal exhaust and save yourselves (and the rest of us motorcyclists) a heap of trouble?

More noise, more legislation in the future?
Track exhaust, insurance invalid on the road?

And for what purpose? Willy waving and more power than you will ever use.

I just don’t understand the obsession with exhausts!

  15. Whilst not yet a requirement for a motorcycle MoT, I can see that an emissions check will be mandatory in the not too distant future. That will effectively end the aftermarket catalytic converter delete exhaust for new bikes and cost riders of existing bikes with catalytic converter delete exhausts, as you will be charged vehicle tax, entry to ULE Zones and parking based on your emissions. 16. Bloody complicated these V4RS’.

Pleased I’m sticking with my relatively simple Pikes Peak.

    With full system…

  18. Manufacturers have worked hard in recent years to make a decent airbox noise for the rider and with ear plugs in you can't hear the exhaust anyway.

  19. With lots of V4 owners fitting the full race system , there are plenty of the standard Akro cans on ebay. There is very little if any difference in the sound of a standard can , but it looks nice. Bought one from a Ducati dealer (as new) £365

  20. I was playing around on the Ducati configurator today and this now pops up before you even begin to select any of the packages
