Thoughts On Matrix 998

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by bigjimmyb, Nov 19, 2023.

  1. So my stable is ‘full’, but I’ve had a hankering for a 998 for a while. I was also talking to a mate about liking the Matrix models. I look casually in ebay today and this is there:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/13481389...-_J53SeTV2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Seems cheap-ish compared to other 998s I’ve seen and I’m not very clued up on them.

Would appreciate some thoughts and advice, please.

    TIA

  2. Looks clean enough. IMO, you really have to love them to own one, I’d rather have a 998S though.
Not so sure about the 136hp claim. I believe the Matrix just used the std 998 engine.

  3. No help on the specifics of the bike I'm afraid, but the tank pad isn't lined up properly, that must be worth a £1000 discount!!

  4. Well it’s the S I’ve been having the hankering for and I recently missed one on here for about £8.5k.

The ad says it’s got an S upgrade, end cans and ECU, but if I’m not mistaken, would S not have meant wheels and suspension?

  5. The wheels are the same.
Steering damper, brakes and a 136hp deep sump engine. Can’t remember if there’s anything else…

  6. Ok, just read the add…
There was an upgrade S kit available from Ducati so could well be 136. It still has the non S brakes and steering damper though. Hope this helps.

  7. Thanks Bettes.

I’ve already got two bikes, a 1098s and a 1200XE Triumph scrambler so one would have to go.

But I love them both and I’ve put time and money into making the 1098 decent.

So bearing in mind what I’ve got, it’ll be a heart over head decision if I go for it.

  8. I agree, if kosher it is a bargain...:upyeah:

  9. At that price, one could afford to get some correctly coloured fairings/tank and store away the nasty green stuff!

  10. Your bike was my benchmark, Guillame, which is why I thought it was cheap.

I couldn’t see mileage either so will make some enquiries.

    Merci bien

  11. For your awareness, my Matrix had 15.000km (approx. 9.400 miles) at the time of sale.
The 998, whether dark green or red, is a fantastic bike…

    Good hunt!!!

  12. From the eBay pix I took a punt on the licence plate. Bingo.

It’s done approx 17500 miles. Which for me is fine. Have asked seller if it’s had the Desmo done.

I’m still unsure as to why it’s relatively cheap. And I also wonder how easy to find would be a mono seat (or I suppose get a red one and have it painted).

Ad mentions 1 owner from new. DVLA says V5 change in 2012…..seller changed address?

  13. IMO, the listing is a scam. If you look at the other items listed, I think they are all well below market value. Andy

  14. It’s a scam mate, I’ve just googled the company website and it doesn’t have any bikes on it or even the same cars it’s listing on eBay. I also found the ad pictures on google images and it was sold in August for £14250 at auction.
Lots of this going on on eBay at the moment

  15. Scam was my instinct too. They’ve taken the pics and a set of info from a previous ad the last time it was up for sale.

  16. If it looks too good to be true…..

    I had my suspicions.

    Oh well.

    Thanks all.
