Data Tag By Dealer?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Stripy, Nov 17, 2023.

  1. Have an outstanding issue with my dealer - supply of Datatag.

All my previous Ducs have had Datatag marked from the dealer, and got registration papers with the handbook.

This time with the Rally - nothing.
Service chap asks mechanic - who can’t remember. I’m then given the sticker to put somewhere myself, I ask for the number and registration papers - now referred to the sales woman.
Sales woman doesn’t really react other than like “I don’t understand your question”-look and shakes her shoulders, and Off she goes.
Not so fast, I enquire again and get her over to service reception - getting the two persons to talk through their procedure, and the overall gist is Sales woman knows f-all about anything.

Does anyone else get no Datatag any longer on new bikes this year?

  2. Isn’t it a paid for extra, applied by the dealer if requested, rather than something that happens automatically.

  3. Well I’d imagine, if they want money for it, they’d say that’s the way it is now - but having had three new bikes from the prior and they haven’t charged anything (other than whatever is included in their increased delivery fee), you’d imagine that they’d ask me to cough up with some dosh - but their behaviour is like either I’m speaking an obscure language or they’ve suddenly got either extreme dementia or gone deaf all of a sudden.

It’s an odd behaviour I think

  4. I recently bought a year old Pikes Peak and it has all the Datatag bits (UV water, aqualok, frame and fairing stickers and registration info), in a plastic bag in the handbook wallet. I was a bit confused why it's there and not on the bike, I assume I can fit it all if I wish and that it's already paid for? Need to speak to Datatag.
I've got a few more bits than you, but does seem a strange way to go about it. There must be somebody there that has some grasp of the workings of Datatag, or even basic English to understand your question?

  5. All new UK Ducati should come with it.

  6. Hi there.

Not sure about the dealer end of things but if you email Danny Mclaren at the Datatag Registration Team, he should be able to ensure the registration bit is at least completed (particularly for a used bike or new one where the dealer should have registered it properly). Or he can ensure, for a small fee, like £25, that the right process is used to re-register your bike with Datatag in your name if not already done so.

    Danny is contactable at
[email protected] or by his direct number +44 345 0700 440.
    The Datatag website is

    Good luck.
    Rich.

  7. Further to the useful information on Datatag in the post above, the links below provide more information about the scheme, and show Ducati participate:

I had a similar problem with a dealer supplied bike, but not a Ducati, and after contacting Datatag the matter was resolved.
My current Ducati has Datatag fitted by the dealership.
    Good luck.
    Tom.

  8. Has it actually been installed? Pointless registering something if the codes are not UV etched or transpondered onto the bike. A UV light will confirm if the body panels have been marked and confirm the unique code for your bike.

  9. My new street triple had it all applied , I never realised it was a 'thing' with most new bikes

  10. Nope - not from what I’ve been able to determine.

  11. My new Multistrada came with it in October

  12. I’ve been meaning to ring Datatag to check but it seems the V4R came with a bag full of Datatag rather than the applied to the bike version

  13. Manchester by any chance?

  14. The kit is supposed to be fitted by the dealer during pdi. It’s a Ducati UK thing, not supplied by the factory.

  15. No, not in this case. I don’t want to name the dealer as they have looked after me

  16. I’m no expert but I would say that box was ticked in error at PDI !

  17. Seems to be quite common, I have a bag with the same in it.

  18. that’s only the top up kit, provided for any extra panels/seat changes etc.

Every new Triumph/Ducati I’ve had in the last 6-7 years has had them, and had Datatag fitted, they don’t do the stupid stencilled numbers anymore but on my V2 you could see dabs of the glue around the bike

  19. That bag isnt the complete kit, looks like just the leftover/top up kit - is there about a dozen template stickers?

Thats what would us to stick on then use the UV fluid on the templates to mark it (Ill find one of mine, know I have some where). If you have a UV torch/light should be able to see some of them quite easily?
