After reporting the theft of a bike in London to the police and telling them that the area was well covered by CCTV that would have captured any vehicles used to steal it on tape, I relaxed a bit. When I heard nothing I went back to the police who said that they had not looked at the CCTV because I'd given them a two-hour time frame - in the middle if the afternoon - for the crime. Apparently it's Met policy only to look at CCTV tapes if they're given a 20-minute time frame because they don't have enough resources to look at hours of tapes. Probably policy for other forces as well. Obvious if you think about it. But if I'd been told that when the crime was reported I'd have asked to see the tapes myself. And it's probably too late now as the bike is in a thousand pieces... Just something to be aware of.
Now that is just pure laziness. The fast forward button is an amazing invention. It is easy spot the point when the bike is there and the point when isn't. I would make a complaint of neglect of duty.
That's just not fair at all. Particularly, that they didn't explain that to you in the first place. a letter to the Chief Constable at least pointing out that their policy is not clear. might not get your bike back but they should not be able to pass you off as easy as that.
Gobsmacked to hear this, sounds like total bullshit possibly by a lazy individual, If this is in fact the Mets policy you should indeed forward a letter of complaint, the negligence is then with the tit head who wrote the policy. JB
If I thought it would change anything I would. As it is I really can't be @rsed. I'd rather spend my time doing something I enjoy ... riding my MTS hundreds of miles springs to mind ...
