After trying both Arai & Shoei lids in the dim & distant past I found the latter were much more comfortable fit and have used nothing but Shoeis ever since. It used to be said you either had an Arai shaped head or a Shoei shaped one (fnarr fnarr ) So fast forward 30 years or so, with much more choice of quality helmets do people find any difference in the fit/comfort of the various makes?
I always had shoei until they changed them and they no longer fitted me, then I went to Dainese then X-lite. To me they have all had a similar fit but Arai have never fitted me.
I wore Arai for many years, fitted me just fine until they changed something with regards to the opening size? I couldn't even get it on my head. Tried an X-lite and was converted, great fit and much lighter than Arai - I bought the full carbon version which was considerably cheaper than even the non-carbon Arai, whilst the carbon Arai is just a silly price.
I have an AGV pista very comfy helmet but being a race helmet the visor is either open or shut. My new Helmet is an Xlite 903 in carbon. Just as comfy as the AGV but has a multi position visor and a sun visor and half the price of the AGV
Info I read, Safety Helmet, no import duty and no UK VAT. Read on Ebay firm in Holland state this on there description.
Just bought a Suomy SR GP Supersonic for 499 euro, in Germany, good old black Friday! I normally wear Arai RX 7, Shoei NXRs and Xspirit and fancied a change, its light weight and a bunch pf good reviews.
I don’t live anymore in the UK thank god so I don't have a problem with the import, I did bring some RC Brembo pads in last spring from Italy via ebay uk and there was nothing, they just turned up!
It’s arrived and wow, I am so pleased. Quality seems to be great, but the fit is perfect. Thank you all for your help, expertise and guidance.
I've just treated myself to a new lid as well, an X-LITE X-1005 Ultra Carbon. It's not quite as light as my previous helmets, an LS2 Vortex and a Lazer Monaco Eco but boy is it comfortable. First time out yesterday and I'd ridden 5 miles before I realised that I'd forgotten to put my ear plugs in. No fancy Ducati artwork but that's the least of my concerns.
This thread has got me thinking i need to treat my head to a new lid now and there’s only one I want. If anyone sees a new small/medium in this on their travels pls let me know. The time has come to finally own one lol.
Subjective topic but I rate my Arai Quantic is very comfortable… but a little heavy. Also have a carbon Bell Star Race Flex DLX - comfy, light, and the Protint visor is genius https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/40451526...ar=674495384504&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I've thought about bell a few times but never had chance to try one. How does it compare size wise with the arai
I’ve got large in both. The Bell is definitely a bit more snug over the ears to get into but once in is very similar to the Arai… perhaps a touch more fitted. It’s not as plush inside as the arai (not much else is imho) but has some very effective wicking material, flows air better and feels much lighter. Field of vision is amazing so great on track and wore it on a trip to Germany during their 38 degree heatwave last summer and it didn’t bother me once. Regarding the visor, I don’t understand why more manufacturers don’t produce more light reactive visors - it’s a great idea. It doesn’t take a pinlock, but equally it doesn’t seem to mist up either… It’s a £700 helmet available for £350.. (which is what I paid 18mths ago. Well worth it from the makers of the first full face helmet. https://www.rideapart.com/features/...rs-of-full-face-motorcycle-crash-helmets/amp/
