I just wish that Ducati had made the V4 look a bit more like the Desmosedici … Absolutely epic looking bike that
Its just not as pretty as its predecessors is it. Cant quite put my finger on it buts its like they havent smoothed the edges off (as Poucher demonstrates ^ ^ ^ ).
But they can’t keep making the same old thing, most moaned about the 999/749 now most think its cool! If you want a D16 you can have it, if you want 916, 999 or 1198 you can have it, many still like new, I to have mixed feelings about the V4 but the latest series looks good for me. I have 1299, 1199, 749 and each I wouldn’t give up.
I have had a 2018 v4s, Pani R, 959, V2 and v2 Bayliss. The best looking imho was the Pani R but I do love the look of my little v2 Bayliss. The v4s was more “chunky” than the others.
The V4 is still a good looking bike, but to me, the proportions are just a bit off and overall “ aesthetically “ I don’t think it looks quite as good as the V twins.. It looks really quite nose heavy to me, the front fairing area where the lights are is almost touching the front mudguard, I’m not keen on how the bodywork wraps around the front of the tank and I think that the rear seat unit is too truncated, there’s hardly any bodywork there and it just makes the proportions of the bike look a bit unbalanced really. My two favourite looking Ducati sports bikes are the Desmosedici rr and the 1299 Superleggera, but both are ( understandably) big money.
Agree about the tail unit also the farings look more suited to a Honda and that exhaust just looks botched together and ugly (not for the first time of course - nothing quite beats the 959 side exit pipes for ruining a bikes looks).
You are right about the SL1299, when I first saw it in a glass box in Milan went and told the wife I just seen the bike that I would design from a blank sheet, she said go buy it, I said OK and shat myself a little, but it was worth every penny and more, I have the Xtrenta and the SL motor is a million miles superior, its a serious race bike.
Thank guys, they get used, I will track the RSV next year, I think Mugello or RedBull will suit and less chance of a crash, funny thing is people whom are not so obsessed as us like my 1199 the most when asked, can be a bit demoralising and I could never choose as they all have there own story but I guess people like black bikes!
Awesome garage you’ve got there @farmind I’d be p/ xing the Xtrenta against a Desmosedici if you can find a good one, then it would truly be a dream garage
Thanks, Nearly bought a Des after the SL for 47k, If the guy dropped to 45k I would have, I have mixed feelings about it, but considering the prices now I made a mistake, I wouldn’t have bought it to sit and thats why I didnt push too hard because I saw little use for the Des as I found that the SL was only any use on the track and Im not a collector, they are bikes and should be ridden is my personal view not paintings on a wall!
Was just in my local Ducaaati shed. They have a 1299SL for 60 large(not Wotsits sadly) But this was outside
I’m not overly keen from that angle it looks very similar to an Orca not enough sharpness to it for me.
