Silverstone - No 2024 Track Days

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Wasey, Dec 19, 2023.

  1. I am hoping the website is wrong, but read on visordown apparently so motorcycle track days there this year!

Car days still happening though, that’s my season ruined before it’s even started!

  2. Yes, no bike track days in 2024 but returning in 2025. I wonder how that is going to affect the Ducati day. Andy

  3. Got an email from Ducati, after the last Ducati Track Day was unfortunately curtailed early and they offered me a voucher but only mentioned 2 days at Donington! Great shame but hopefully an operator may run their own event?

  4. I think it is very likely, the only motorcycle racing at Silverstone next year, will be the MotoGP. Not sure why but I’ll have a poke around to see if anyone knows why. Andy

  7. Yeah I am truly gutted, I was building my bike this winter with this being my planned highlight. Was planning my season around them with a few Snetterton's early in season as local test days ready to tackle SS GP circuit on the double headers a few times. There is no other circuit like it un UK, the speed and flowing nature of it like nothing else in this country, me and the GP circuit just click.

But, sad as it is it might make me look at Euro's for a first time. Did Le-Mans a few years ago on the R6, might have to see if can get back there this year now as be much better on the Panigale.

  8. Probably because they have built a loaf of condos for Rich people to live in and they only want the noise going on when it’s f1 or MotoGP… rather than us plebs riding past the window

  9. I have a suspicion, having read somewhere or heard of a possible track layout revision, the GP circuit might no longer be available for bikes. I truly hope not, the GP circuit is my favourite too. Andy

  10. Sad but probably true, the BDRC give the impression they have absolutely no affinity with the bike world. Andy

  11. That would be a very sad day for the track day bike scene , like you say I really hope not the case. It was a pricey track day, but always worth the money to me so dont understand it

  12. Just wrote a bitter and twisted, cynical diatribe but thought better of it. Suffice to say, the clue is in the circuit owner’s title, the British Racing Driver’s Club. Andy

  13. It's over 10 years since the BRDC had a bike-enthusiast president (Damon Hill 2006-2011)

  14. Poor show

  15. MSV won’t be helping the situation let’s be honest… the way they are trying to dominate the uk track market and take the championship only to their own tracks will have a knock on effect to the divide between BRDC and the uk bike clubs.

  16. If I’m to accept what has been said within the Marshall's group at face value, it’s not been one sided, more cause and effect. Sadly in a commercial world, your average motorcycle racing punter doesn’t have the deep pockets of the average F1 punter nor is there the level of support. It was claimed over 480,000 people attended the F1 weekend this year and MotoGP managed 100,000. BSB, you’d be lucky to draw 30,000 and only then, at tracks like Donington and Brands :( Andy

  17. I was a regular at Silverstone for a few years, mostly when they were still allowing NL and FE to run events there. When this stopped the only option was to attend one of their own TDs, which I also did, as you could buy a few in advance on black friday.
Although well run and a 'free' breakfast, they were very expensive, of course prices have continued to increase. TBH, I'd be surprised if they make a return and if they do they'll be bloody expensive.
IMO, the UK TD scene has become shit, attended by fucktards, oversubscribed and a gamble with weather. If you still want your track thrills I'd be looking at racing or euros.
