V4 Mucky Multi

  1. Some of us ride all year and this is the result of 150 miles of riding on the lanes, there was tarmac under the mud in most places! I have had all the Multi Models from 2010 onwards and the V4 is the absolute worst for getting its back end filthy - don't worry it is clean again now.
    I seem to think that someone does a mud catcher for the back wheel of the V4, like the ones fitted on the previous versions such as the 1260. I am seriously thinking of fitting one for winter rides, I already have the Pyramid extenders on front and back and the winglet flaps, that were closed, so my trousers didn't get quite so muddy.

    Anyone know if any supplier does a mud catcher for the V4?

  5. Must be a wind vortex at the back of the bike to get the outside of the numberplate covered in muck. If so I wonder if a mud catcher would be fully effective.

  9. I think the problem is caused by the way the aerodynamics stop the engine heat getting to the rider.

    I can't remember where I saw it but watched a video a few weeks ago where they had a camera attached lowcdown on the back of the bike and you can see the way the air moves around the rear of the bike.

  10. I have the Givi mudguard and adapter and it makes little difference. As others have said, it’s all to do with the aerodynamics of the bike. That bubble of still air you sit in leaves a vacuum behind you into which the air, along with all the rain and muck off the road, rushes and coats the back of the bike and the swing arm.
     
  11. It certainly is aerodynamics on the V4 as no previous Multis were this bad. It seems that the rear tyre just sprays crap everywhere, I may try a Pyramid Universal Splash Plate that fits behind the Number plate to see what difference that makes.

  12. Ducati have definitely got the aerodynamics spot on from a rider perspective. On my PP with the screen set low I get zero wind noise or buffeting. The down side is the resultant mess behind you!

  13. Personally I’ll happily take the lack of wind noise and buffeting and I can spend the cash I save on replacement screens to buy shampoo and sponges

If I can add my hap'worth to WCP's comment, I would say that whilst the airflow is laminar at the front of the bike it is most definitely turbulent at the back, which is practically impossible to eliminate. Any spray, spray + dirt is then picked up by the turbulent air and redistributed quite efficiently all over the back of the bike and rider. Eliminating this would require an all encompassing rear mudguard to keep as much spray away from the turbulence - but - ruining or improving the bike's aesthetics according to your opinions.

  15. Totally agree, I'm 6ft 2in and I have the screen on my V4 Rally on a lower setting. After struggling with various combos on a previous KTM 1290 SAS with no success, I have v little wind noise or buffeting.
