Metzeler Sportec M7RRs, because I just happen to have a pair available In the long term and for mile munching in Spain and France, Metzeler Roadtec 01SE’s. Andy
That might be the case but I ride year round. Metzelers suited my 1st generation Multistrada 1200 so that will be my starting point. Andy
Worthwhile putting them back on when the summer comes, the PP rides so much better on sports tyres rather than sport/touring tyres.
Roadtec 02s coming soon in time for next spring/summer - might be tempted to try a pair as a change from Michelin Road 6s but looks like I might need to wait a while for the 19" front for my V4S
Disappointed there’s no detail but do you expect a 19” front for what they headline as Hypersport touring ? Would probably more suit the Multistrada PP/RS, M1000XR and the new KTM 1390 Super Duke. IMO, Metzeler have got to go a long way to improved on the 01SE, which they didn’t do from the M7RR to the M9RR. Andy
I made that change, and better than I thought, without the road 6 being bad, the better ones metzeler
@steveb123, found this, https://twotyres.co.uk/product/metzeler-roadtec-02/, interesting comment towards the end of the short video presentation about 19” front wheel bikes and the intimation that the 02 isn’t going to be cheap. I guess part of the price you pay to develop manufacturing technology to use alternative, non oil based, and recycled raw materials. Andy
I've actually been impressed by them, coming from Roadtec 01SE's. On the 1260 they've been impressing me in the sub-zero temps and wading through puddle weather we had, but then I've mostly been doing commuting, nothing to push on in. Funny how tyres can be perceived completely differently.
Been out again in marginal conditions and the Rosso 4s are not filling me with confidence. I was considering just running them until they needed replacing but after today I’m not so sure. I’m not spooked by gravel and mud nor am I thrown by the bike moving around but these tyres do not react as well in these conditions as others I have ridden with. It’s not affecting my enjoyment of the V4 Pikes Peak for now but after the 600 mile service I’ll want to press on and I do not have the confidence that these tyres will deliver on anything other than dry, warm and detritus free roads. Andy
This is lifted from the Pirelli web site Tri-compound rear tyres, from 190/55 ZR 17 above Introducing an endurance-racing compound, the 5-zone layout moves the trade-off on high lean angles from wet grip to thrust boost to cope with the extreme cornering speed and the astonishing engine outputs of modern performance motorcycles. The soft full silica mid rubber strip ensures performance whilst delivering a safe sporty ride – across all weather conditions I’ll ride in temperatures ranging from 4°C to 40°C and although I’ve only managed 240 miles on the Rosso 4s, I think Pirelli’s idea of “all weather conditions” isn’t the same as mine. Not an issue, I've been here before, I just need to find the tyre that suits the bike and me. I’m not that busy next week so the wheels will come off and the M7RRs will get fitted. If they don’t work, I think I’ll probably try Continental Race Attacks. Andy
I agree you need to be very smooth and careful when the roads are like they are at the moment However when the temperature picks up a bit and the roads are less slippery they definitely come into there own and give superb grip and confidence in the summer months My bike won’t see the light of day until conditions pick up, so I’m happy with them But that doesn’t mean it’s the same for everyone, just my thoughts and feedback
A guy I ride with on a V4 PP has the Rosso 4's, they're not the best at this time of year. For the first 10 miles on a Sunday ride you can hear the 'oops, oh shit, whooa's' through the intercoms until they warm up a bit, then they're fine. He ran R5's for one set as he was not keen for the same reason as you but, they slowed the handling very noticeably and that's the whole reason for having a PP, the handling. He went back to Rosso's and just takes it easy for a few more miles than me if cold and damp. The electronics will sort it out, bikes these days are basically uncrashable, so I keep telling him
When I was in France last year, I ragged the shit out of the bike, with Rossi 4’s, I’ve ground the pegs on both sides, they were brilliant. But maybe not ideal for the uk roads & temperatures.
Just an update on the Iconic’s sat nav mount I fitted. The condition of the roads today were awful and the heavier Garmin Zumo XT2 put too much stress through the plastic brackets and they failed. No damage done (other than the plastic brackets) and I’ve emailed Jamie to give him some feedback. In hindsight I should have fitted the metal off road mounts in the first place. My fault. Andy
I had V1 and V2 of the plastic mounts break (eventually) and finally replaced with the metal brackets - since then no issues at all, all done FoC and I am happy with that. I have a TT550 on my bike so not as heavy as the XT2.
Jamie has replied to my email with offer of a replacement but it was my laziness for not fitting the metal brackets I had when I knew the XT2 weighs the same as a London brick Still think the whole mount is great, just need to recognise one size doesn’t fit all in this case. Andy
Have you binned off the Pirelli’s yet Andy? Wondering how the bike was now if you have the Metzelers on.
Until I saw the weather forecast for the coming week, the plan was to swap but looks like I'll get the 600 miles in first. Another 90 miles today in very sketchy conditions and part way through, I started to think Roadtecs with the new 02 coming this month. Keen to see the profile before committing. Andy
