An interesting YouTube link posted in another thread, showed a new helmet being ceramic polished. Had it been the bad old days of polycarbonate, the answer would be simple but today, with improved understanding of materials technology, improved manufacturing techniques and better paint, is using something like a ceramic nano polish still a big no no or is it now an acceptable practice ? This is my understanding for my own purposes and not any kind of recommendation: From my understanding solvents were the issue - certain paints contain solvents and that was the issue as it destroyed the glue that stuck the 2 halves of a polycarbonate helmet together. It may have damaged the polycarbonate shell itself ? I think Arais could always be painted as they have always been single shaped shell and made of fibre glass - and not two halves of polycarbonate stuck together. Plenty of Journos ( MCN) have custom painted helmets - probably Arais that started out as plain white. So I figured this McLaren Dura Coating 83 ceramic wash did not contain any solvents and was safe on plastic and all kinds of paints so figured it should be OK on my nice new £600 helmet. I chose McLaren because it was in our local motoring parts shop - they had the full range of their products. So I looked it up on the net before putting on the helmet, after using it on the bike. I don't know about other products they may be different. It might be worth writing to Shoei and get an answer from them - see what they say. Looks good.
