748r. Recommission To Sell Or Sell As Is?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by steve 748r, Dec 26, 2023.

  1. Hi everyone .
As the title says, I have a y2k 748r that I have owned for just over 9 years. It has been mothballed for 4/5 years due to being self employed. Infact I think its last outing was to Neil at Cornerspeed Ducati for service including belts and mot back in 2018.
I think it is criminal to have it sat there indefinitely so its time to sell.
My question is would you recommission or sell as is for a realistic price?
Your thoughts are very much appreciated.
    Thanks, Steve 20230513_171620.jpg

  2. What's to recommission apart from new belts?

  3. Fluids , tyres etc.

  4. Not a lot then - standard consumables.
I’d sell as is as easy job for a lot of people.

  5. Problem you have, is understanding what is a "reasonable" price. I've had an Öhlins 748R for sale at what I thought was a reasonable price and it's still in my dining room, 6 months later. Andy

  7. If you are unsure what a reasonable price is you could always run an auction with a suitable reserve.
That way the market decides what is reasonable.

  8. I think I will have the same problem Andy
There seems to be a few R's on ebay.

  12. I tried to go look at one in the summer! An owner of here, made it seem like he was doing me a favour replying so went with the more sensible option of an 899! Very different bikes I know and each have their place, if I get rid of my speed triple I’ll be looking for a 748r in summer

  13. If you have reserve it’s still what you consider market reasonable and not the market.

IMHO you won’t recoup the cost of the new stuff and a buyer often doesn’t believe it anyway ?!!) so honest ad and sell at what you want for it.

  14. If I wasn’t holding on for a rainy day I’d be looking at yours. Shows state of market if you can’t sell after all the work done.

  15. Buyers look to be favouring retail for the option of finance, trade in and warranty, which the private seller cannot compete with. The days of having cash in your back pocket are definitely a thing of the past for now :worried: Andy

  16. My view is that if you price it right it will sell. There is still money around but the market has dipped and some sellers are holding out for pre dip prices. It’s a buyers market right now so if you don’t need to sell or want top dollar, hold off.

  17. Exactly this. Every bike will sell, but not always for the price the owner wants. That leaves two options, one of which is keeping the bike...

  18. £7,500 for the R, £15,000 for an RS.

  19. if a decent R is only worth £7500 then someone needs to tell all the people advertising cooking fat 748’s and 996’s for £7k+. That said, you need convinction to buy a 748r, you need to LOVE it and be desperate for one, which limits the audience. I’ve ridden two now, the first was horrible to ride until Motorapido really went over it and got it running right, the newer one with only 5k miles on (which my mate currently has) even after motorapido apparently sorted it runs like crap, it’s hard work to ride. And if you do your research most say they are a pig. So you just need that one person who knows what they are getting to rock up.

apart from saying I got a 899 as it was safe choice, I will admit it was also because I have access to a 748r when I want one which is a fortunate position to be in
