Gas oven went west just before Christmas and an electric replacement purchased. Unfortunately, I need to add a 45A trip to the distribution board and have no idea if the board is current and if the parts is still available. It is one of these. Andy
Thank you for identifying the unit, a big step foward. The one you see is being used for a 4KW instant shower. I need to install another Andy
WYLEX haven’t made plug in MCBs for a while. A salvage wholesaler will be your best bet. CEF list them, but I’m not posting a link. I work for a competitor!
Difficulty in getting a 45A MCB and introducing the correct rated wiring, might it be easier to replace the consumer unit?
Thank you for your help, I have purchased the complete MCB in your link and have spoken with a local electrician who has agreed to fit it, without having to re certify the whole installation. I just need to chase in the cable. I say, chase in but it’s going to be put in trunking attached to the skirting boards running behind the kitchen units. Andy
Any new circuit must be protected by a 30mA RCD/RCBO , the easiest way without replacing the board would be to install a small 3rd amendment consumer unit adjacent to the existing consumer unit with RCD protection and a suitable sized circuit breaker which is usually a 30A and a 6mm twin and earth cable , a double pole link box could be installed to redirect the existing tails and install new tails to the new consumer unit , this way only the cooker circuit would need to be certified and notified , also the earth bonding would need to be checked and if necessary upgraded .
Agreed, also are those ‘single insulated’ wires coming out the top of the board, to the left of the grey main tails, difficult to tell, but your electrician might need to attend to those, also why is the MCB rated at 45 Amps for a 4 KW shower?
My new oven ( 3 years ago maybe) came fitted with a 13 amp plug. It’s a built in oven but a 13 amp plug where I was expecting to wire it in. There was a JB behind the old oven so I just changed this to a non switch socket, there’s a local isolator in the cupboard below. Andy, I’m not wishing to spend your money but have you thought of getting that consumer unit replaced with a modern twin RCD type?
