Silverstone - No 2024 Track Days

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Wasey, Dec 19, 2023.

  1. Yeah think Euro's are going to be the future of TD's, so reading about carnet's as we speak so can take bike over in the van to LeMans/Assen ETC

  2. Racing is by far worst value for money you can ever have.

  3. Defo cost is loads, but for a better track experience it's got to be better.
I read recently that Odiham have now stopped the ARDs, which is a huge shame. I'm unsure if the 2dayers at a UK circuit will continue. I think they were looking at an OMCC euro.

  4. And you know why RAF Oldham has done that, OMCC have been unable to weed out the irresponsible riders and the most recent (was it fatal ?) incident, firmly banged the nail in the coffin. Yes, a real shame for the many who take part but hardly unexpected. I understand Benson Motorcycle Club are having issues with RAF Benson flight operations have increased significantly. Andy
Amended to Benson not Bentley, blame brain fade

  5. Yes - there was a fatality.
For balance, I always had a lot of fun at their TD's and never witnessed anywhere near the level of fucktaardary seen at other UK events. The TDs were always very well policed and any idiots quickly sent home.

  6. I was at silverstone this year for BSB round one, if there were 15k people there I’d be shocked, but Silverstone is by an absolute mile the worst spectator track in the country and to make it worse they shut most of the grandstands

  7. Yes I agree! By far the worst track for spectators! But by a mile the best track this country has! In my opinion of course!

  8. I went to the BRDC for the MotoGP a few years ago. Both the Farm and the Luffield clubhouse were empty. I was the only person in the Farm grandstand. I also go to the F1……. mobbed.

  9. Apparently there is a back log of film makers waiting for use of the circuit, so they’ve been given priority (£ income) over other events for 2024.

  10. Ultimately Silverstone is a business. Profit will always be the priority.

  11. Move the Moto GP to Donington and let the car drivers and millionaires have Silverstone it’s a great Circuit to ride but they can stick it, was going to do the GP this weekend and camping but I’ll go do Assen instead

  12. Donington needs huge sums spending on its infrastructure to make it viable as an international circuit.

  13. like what ? Bit of extra air fencing it’s good to go, unfortunately MotoGp is going far too F1 for its own good, biggest crowds for motorcycles here was foggy era WSB and we all managed ok then

  14. McLeans and Coppice require remodelling to provide better run off to achieve FIM accreditation to host MotoGP. The level of investment required was a contributory cause for the collapse of the previous company that leased the track and aspired to hosting MotoGP. MSV has made several improvements but only to address safety issues to host BSB and World SBK. The other major issues that needs addressing are camping facilities (which are appalling) and getting in to and out of the circuit. The government and Silverstone coughed up 10s of £millions to improve the A43 and getting into and out of that circuit still sucks. JP will want to see significant return on his investment in Donington and IMO, MotoGP isn’t going to deliver it. Andy

  15. Fair enough I’m probably living in the past, as for track days at Silverstone I don’t use it even thou it’s in my doorstep too expensive, I’m loving Donny since it been resurfaced so I’ll stick to there, noise limit helps also

  16. Absolute shame got to ride the circuit for the first time last year on the Panigale and loved it. Was looking forward to riding again this year, especially as ordered the new bike for this year. I have rode donnington before and loved it but I would avoid in the wet as slippery as hell.
Hope it does return next year otherwise will be looking at other circuits. Assen might be top of the list

  17. The new surface at Donny gives very good grip in cold and or damp conditions. I agree the circuit pre resurfacing was to be avoided by trackday riders if not dry.

  19. If the WSB guys race at Donington Park, why can't the MotoGP guys do the same?
    Donington is a great circuit!

  20. The governing body, the FIM, have different safety standards that tracks have to meet. World SBK has a lesser standard than MotoGP. Please don’t shoot the messenger :D Andy
