Head lower at exhaust side to make engine shorter to give more front wheel clearance as can get very close under braking on some models.
They had to make room for the suspension points on the monster and ST frames to avoid retooling ;o) Original head design wouldn't fit.
I think Exact Fit belts are slightly different but that info will come with the belts, 110 Hz for OEM Ducati belts
concerns belt tension: ONCE the engine has reached operating temperature and a new belt is an "old one" belt tension App, Pano Tuner https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.soundlim.panotuner&hl=de
I can’t recall the number, but I set a 916 up with the old deflection tool, then measured with the frequency tool, and it wasn’t 110hz. Next time I do one, I’ll check again. I don’t use frequency setting for any of the older bikes.
Jezz nelly you’ve just thrown a spanner in there. And I was in the middle of putting her together to start on my defender turbo.
I’m not saying don’t do it, just that there’s a lot of info come out in this thread, and it just seems to be getting bogged down. I personally think that originally the belts were over tensioned. I’m not convinced with the Allen key method if I’m honest, and the guy who did the video still suggests getting them checked?..... That tech bulletin is quite old, and when it came out I checked my own practices and wasn’t convinced. I’m fortunate to have the tools, and prefer to still use the relevant tool for the period of bike I’m working on. I still use a spring balance for Pantah............. Thing is, this has been done to death over the years and everyone will have their own idea or method, and most will work just fine. Slack is better than tight, so use a little judgement. Remember, the tension is not so much about jumping teeth, it’s also about allowing for expansion as the motor gets hot and the belt not going tight.
a thread from 2009 http://www.ducati-upnorth.com/forum...&highlight=Ducati/Gates+Cam+Belt+Construction
I've read that thread before, and I think the pictures have been on this forum, it says that the damage was caused by incorrect belt tension Have a look a the tensioner pulleys. They've been wound clockwise. Having said that the rest of the thread is probably still relevant.
Thanks to one of my old zuki tools and the gates carbon app I’m sorted I hope and all tensioned to 99hz
Just done mine ,they are way too close(748sps 853) Ebay ducati belts ( ducatimono) 95t anti clockwise on eccentric ( you can go over lobe of eccentric!!) Old belts were 95t Doesn't take much of an error of say 0.080 over 95 teeth to make them alot closer Have ordered exact fit
Have a look at this clip from 17:30 which talks about belt tensioning. https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/baron’s-916sps-at-luigi-moto.97476/
