Hi chaps Just about to pick up my 1199s in white next week and just wondering how the heat of the exhaust or engine is an issue? All I seem to hear about is getting a burnt backside? A few years ago I had a 749 and I must admit it got hot on my inner thighs but that was about it. I confess I moved to a blade and have been happy with Honda. The lure of the 1199 pulled me back to Italian exotica . Please tell me I have spent a small fortune on a dream and not on a heated seat!!
Different people have different experiences. I have not really had an issue. The closest I have had to it becoming too hot was sitting in town earlier this year when the air temp was around 30. Keep moving and stay away from towns and you too will not have any issues. It is one of those things that is an issue for some but suffers from IAS (Internet Amplification Syndrome). Stop worrying and enjoy the toy.
Picked one up tonight, it does get warm! But it didn't seem incredibly so. I think it'll only get real toasty around town at low speeds. My 848 used to get pretty toasty to round town on a hot day and it doesn't seem to be any worse from what I can see so far (I have only gone through Coventry round rush hour so far though). On the bike, only done 100 miles so far but it really, really does seem a cut above. I was a little worried tbh, but a few miles down the road I am absolutely over the moon with it and have a feeling this is only going to get better
Least you will have a warm butt and legs in the winter,,,enjoy your new bike you won't be disappointed at all.
Yep. Its not an issue at all, unless you are trying to commute through Central London, then the engine heat is pretty high. With the heat shield in place, you'll know if its not there, you'll be fine
I find the 1199s no hoter than the 848 I had before it. In fact I would say its less, have the termis fitted that may help a bit perhaps.
Hi that's good news coz I am going to ride even if I need the oven gloves in my leathers!!!! Thanks I pick her up next Saturday.
Hi Matt useful info. Have you always had a Ducati? Tbh I have not even test ridden the 1199. I saw it and loved the way it looks and chopped in my Blade in minutes. As said I had a 749 a few years back and I felt I was hard on the wrists. Hence I went back to the Jap bikes. When you picked yours up did you put in wet mode? Or straight on to sport? The dealer mentioned to that it might be better to put into wet mode while I get used to it. Tbh my blade is epic with no ABS or modes surely the 1199 isn't that aggressive? I know I just need to wait and see but theirs nothing better then other riders info rather than dealers who just want to sell you a bike. I will pick mine up next Saturday. Let's hope it stays dry! Thanks
Well if it's any consolation, I hadn't ridden a bike for 24 years when I bought the Panigale. Started in wet mode if I'm honest mainly because of the dealer recommendation, but moved onto Sport pretty quickly. After 50 miles or so. It's like someone said on here, the throttle goes both ways. Good luck with the new toy, you'll love it.
I gotta say the heat shielding looks like a naff after thought (actually it was as some daft yank burnt himself whilst wearing shorts). I think I would remove it completely and have the work of art zorst on show and suffer from maybe a bit more heat.
Yes your right there. The plastic looks like a quick mockup for the moment. Maybe they will do something cool at some point. The bare exhaust looks much nicer. Get it polished up.
I had the option of the new exhaust and engine covers, but thought they looked awful. It would take a lot of heat for me to have those fitted. A real after thought if I have ever seen one.
Oddly, after almost being physically sick when I saw them originally and having now lived with them for a couple of months, I don't seem to mind them. But on the subject of heat, it hasn't bothered me at all albeit it was a bit toasty in the hot weather and sat in traffic.
