Had to sell my 2002 r53 here in Canada back in 2014. I miss it one of the best cars I've owned (Best meaning fun)
no idea, it looks like he might have spent at least that on it but not my cup of tea overall. possibly controversial on here so won't add more.
there is an awkward middle ground though, you either buy super cheap accepting you need to put a fair amount in, or you buy for £1300-2000 and hope some have been done, but often not. I’ve gone for saving a car that was due to be scrapped, I know it makes no sense, but if my missus asks I really planned it out and this made total sense
Its always tricky buying older cheap cars. I tend to expect & accept to spend money on mechanical things, but I always want a high spec model as some of the upgraded features are either impossible or super expensive to add. Also the price difference between a low spec 15 year old car & high spec in similar condition & miles is almost nothing. Complete sets of full leather seats in Minis fetch £500 easily, yet the price of a car with them is perhaps a £100 more (provided you look around). Minis with full leather usually come with all the other goodies as well off people paid stupid money for them new! I replaced front suspension, brake pads, one caliper and fixed the oil leak -total cost of Lab & parts £450 at my local guy. So I've got £2250 in the car; it drives like its brand new from the showroom, mint fully loaded interior & looks about 3 years -or less- old on an 08 plate. I'm happy with that. It doesn't have a heated windscreen like @Ducbird though...
just got back from a 200 mile drive with the mrs in her mini I've gone bloody deaf. must be one of the most noisy cars I've been in, i had a LDV truck that was quieter
yeah. The one I got had cruise control, pan roof etc. Doesn’t have a LSD though which is a shame, I’m hoping it will be really nice. aside from the engine, a few bits that need attention on the body but nothing shocking, the usual rust around the rear light, but I think it’s early on so might be able to sand back and rattle can spray it
They leak into the boot when you get holes in the rust Very hard to get hold of the originals Mini do them for £117 each!! None in the country so they would have to be ordered The seals go on them letting the water in I have a little in mine on passenger side it's not done much damage yet Will replace as soon as I get hold of some I have seen the flag type but I want to try and keep as original as possible
The seal around the light goes let's water in and rust the bottom edge away where the water sits and you don't realise then it leaks into the boot The more water in there could freeze then crack the light You also obviously don't want the water in your bulbs
