  1. Two questions.1st 999 has a trickle charger.disconect charger start bike .at idle the volts sit at 12.8 is this normal?iv checked earths ect.
2nd question after changing rectifier(burnt plug) iv only gone and got the 3 yellow wires mixed up.would this be an issue.many thanks

  2. 1. 12.8V would indicate a fully charged battery but I'd expect it to be a somewhat higher than that even at idle if the bike is charging. It should be around 14.2V - 14.6V at 2,000 - 3,000 rpm.
    2. It doesn't matter which way round the 3 yellow wires are.

  3. Mixing up the 3 x Yellow wires won't be an issue, but a fully charged battery should be higher than 12.8V.

BUT, how did you measure the 12.8V?
Strangely my 999 also shows 12.8V on the dash, but a multimeter across the battery terminals shows 13.5 - 14.5V.
I've checked through the whole system and I get 13.5-14.5V everywhere except the dash, so I ignore the dash.
I'm thinking that perhaps the dash shows what Ducati think customers want to see, as most will think is anything over 12V could be a problem

  4. Hi dash says 12.7 and batt says 12.9 at idle.if i kepps rpms at 2000 it goes up to 13.3

  5.
  6. Yea cant understand the low reading compared to most.

  7. Should be around 14.2V on a multimeter above 2000rpm.
If not, consider a problem with reg/rec.

  8. Ill check the reg/ rec and have a look at the wires tommoz.thanks
