While I was at my local dealers j&l they were good enough to let me have a run out on there panigale demo bike. It was so smooth round town but then when I got out on the 60 roads this thing blew my mind. I've had a blade and r1 before and I don't remember them feeling anywhere near as brutal as thing. I loved every second of the ride on it and didn't stop grinning for an hour afterwards and when I got back on my 848 it felt like a 125! I wish I hadn't tried it now I feel like I need this bike in my life
Yup, same feeling I had and still have 12 months after purchase. Now go try one with the 41t rear sprocket and latest upmap. The smile is permanent after that!
It was a 13 plate bike with termis on so will this have the 41t sprocket anyway. He also said it had race chain and sprockets so god knows what gearing it had on the dealer told me to give it revs. Going for the red line in 3rd and 4th was a scary ordeal loved the way the dash surround goes red near the rev limit the dash on those things are so cool
I did not realise the new bikes came fitted with 41t, I thought it was just the R. Good news for those buying now, I had to pay for the upgrade. Race chain and sprockets I suspect just means 520 rather than 525.
Not sure I think I read in one of the mags that they had changed the gearing on all of them to match the R for this year could be wrong though I'm still grinning now thinking about my blast on the pani what a beast!
Listening to the guys ripping down the main straight at Snett, and hearing how hard others found to stay with them, speed is one thing they have!
I spent Sunday whilst working at Bikefest in Stevenage looking at a Tricolour 1199 and the darn thing just got prettier and prettier every bloody minute
deffo go with the 41T + upmap...really helps with the " pull " and it blisters to the red line, and finally 5th and 6th can be used ! awesome bike ! p/ex the 848 and get one !!!
I love my 848 don't think I could part with it it's the first time I've had a bike and I haven't been thinking about what I'm gonna swap it for ext year but at the same time I loved that 1199 maybe I need to be patient I might have one in 2015
Dealer quoted 150 quid 'special' price for rear sprocket and chain, I think I will wait for the current ones to wear out then consider a 40 tooth myself. Probably get it cheaper too.
Yes not too shabby, I would do it as a set and replace the front too as a complete set. Anyone know if the dealer can alter the speedo reading or is it negligible? The new mapping alone seemed to make a massive difference to my bikes mid range pull.
I'm still not convinced that the 41T is worth the effort. If my maths is correct, that's just 4.88% lower than the 39T which is real terms equates to 14.25mph vs 15mph at the same RPM in traffic. Alternatively, just over 520 rpm difference at 10,750rpm. Ok, so torque is 5% greater in 1st with the 41T but all gears on the 39T can be used for longer. FFS it's difficult enough to keep the front on the ground as it lets rip at 8K as it is and I'm 80kgs. Just my 2cents
If the pani is like the 848 and the speedo reads off the wheels and the gearing won't affect it will only be altered if you put penny farthing wheels in. Some bikes such as the gsxr I had last year have a sensor on the front sprocket and hearing changes mess up the speedo readings and you need a speedo healer to correct it
I would agree - This is my first Ducati and hear people go on about missing the old pull from the 1198 etc etc. This Pani pulls like a good un and like Nigelo said when it hits 8k the front gets real light....how fast do you actually need it to go?? Rev it like its sposed to be used and just get out and ride...
