Not just that, the face of Brighton has changed, the closing of the Terraces and traffic management changes will have created a significant issue. The thing for me is the changes in population, as people gravitate to a place for one reason or another and the speed trials don’t fit in with their current lifestyle. Andy
Last year the VMCC announced that the festival of 1000 bikes at Mallory park would no longer take place. What they failed to tell their membership was that although the VMCC was not part of the organisation, it was in fact happening, but organised by the owners of Mallory Park race circuit, and as the VMCC had the right to the "festival of 1000 bikes" name it would be called the Mallory Bike Bonanza. I know (and care) little about the internal politics within the VMCC (of which there is plenty) but I was appalled that the VMCC would announce it was not running and yet fail to mention to their membership that there was a similar event that they may be interested in. It was one of the principal reasons I didn't renew my membership. The VMCC appear to be withdrawing from hosting real motorcycling events for their membership (they also withdrew from a long standing classic event at Cadwell Park last year ). I wouldn't neccesarily take it, that as the VMCC has announced they are not running it, that someone else might not be picking up the organisation. There again it could also be that the authorities in Brighton do not wish to support such an event.
Back in the day, I ran in the Brighton Speed Trials - as the passenger in a Morgan-Matchless three wheeler. Happy days ...
It's ok folks as we've got this nice and safe flying flags day out instead. I've rocked up for the past two years in a safety car on the London to Brighton vintage run, but i never visit the place now.!
Bit like people moving next to circuits and complaining about the noise. I think Laguna is a ver recent case in point.
I think it was cost thing overall? - ran at a loss on previous years, might be back one day but someone might insist on electric power only blah blah.
Not to mention people moving to tourist areas and moaning about, erm, tourists, We were "greeted" by a particularly miserable yorkshire woman last year when we arrived in North Wales who'd clearly done just that She got quite short shrift after a 5 hour drive.
Or the bloke that moved into the posh flats on Queenstown Road in Battersea & made it his life's work to get the Chelsea Cruise shut down.
Aye. My brother lives in Cornwall so I know the score. If I was born in Colwyn Bay, am I still a tourist?
