Looking forward to a few trips on my new (to me) Multistrada this summer and wondering about the best bike to bike comms. I have a Schubert C5 helmet with the SC2 comms controller for sat nav/phone. What are people using for bike to bike comms these days? Ideally it needs to be able to connect to the SC2 system at my end. It will be for two bikes most of the time and never more than three. I looked at the senna system but can’t see whether it works with the Schubert stuff or not.
The SC2 is made by Sena and will work with all Sena intercoms. Its innards are basically the same as the 50S. The voice control function (which I think is excellent) is even activated using 'Hey Sena' (pronounced Seena). Having said that, it also has the Universal Intercom function, which I haven't used, but should get you connected to other brands of headset.
Thanks for the answer and apologies for my ignorance on these things, so as long as my mate also has a Sena variant we can link the two for bike to bike comms?
My chum and I connect with my Schuberth and his Shoei systems (both Sena). Works pretty well as long as you have line of sight, it drops out if you are too far apart. We also added a third rider in without too many issues. The important thing is to test it all well in advance and not wait until you are about to roll off the ferry! And have the link to the operating manual saved on your phone.
Depending on what set your mate has, you may be able to connect using Mesh instead of Bluetooth. I've not used it myself, but apparently it's a more reliable system.
Just a reminder, towards the end of last year, SENA and the other main brand updated so they work together now. No need to align with your mates on the same brand anymore.
Agreed but only on bluetooth. Sena mesh still won’t connect to any other brand’s mesh ……. which is a real pain. Andy
Oh really? Good to know, thanks! I'm actually looking to upgrade my setup for custom IEM's and might use the chance to look at sena alternatives
That’s interesting but I note the Packtalk initiated “bridge” only has a range of 100m. As it’s raining, I’ll have a trawl of the internet to see if there is any more information from Sena. @freshage, Gary's post is new news to me and although not a game changer IMO, it’s a useful development. Andy
Although I’ve only found one reference to it, apparently Sena mesh is compatible with Interphone mesh. More digging required. Andy
Hi all. I have a Ruroc Shockwave 4 and my friend uses a Sena (not sure which model) and we used them for the first time this weekend. I'm not sure if we can connect them via bluetooth although based on some of the above comments I could be wrong. We instead chatted via a Whatsapp call which was great however everytime we lost reception the call would end and i'd have to call hime back, this would be a pain if there was more than two riders in the call. Does anyone have any advice on how to maintain a connection between all riders? I'm sure there's some apps that just keep the call open whilst it waits for a signal?
I use Cardo, used for the first time on two Eu tours last year with all 5 of us on one, it was really good, range on mesh was sometimes over a mile depending whether it was flat or not, simple to set up, very clear and battery life no issue would work all day, bit fiddly using buttons but all like that with gloves on, but would definitely recommend, really safe option for the group being able to tell riders behind of road surface issues, directions if one gets left behind and overtaking moves, in a group now wouldn't ride without comms, and you can have a great laugh chatting about junk and maybe ladies on route
