I'm just about to ask my tire guy for some prices on new tires. Angel GT'2s or Michelin Road 6. Final opinions from anyone with experience of these welcome. Is it true to say the Road 6 doesn't rub the tire like the Road 5 was reported to do ? Cheers
I'd have to comment by asking what are you primarily looking for in a tyre. For touring, the Angels are brilliant wet or dry, long lasting and heat-up fast. For something a bit sportier you may try a set of Rosso IV's. I can't comment about the Road 5 or 6 but the Pirellis fit right and are also OEM's. Price differences should be a non-issue.
You've just opened a can of worms but, I'll give my opinions for what they're worth. Road 5's give better grip than Road 6's, probably won't notice it unless on the limits but 5's have a softer compound and a softer carcass therefore, if you're after mileage choose Road 6's, after grip and feel choose Road 5's. I must have been through 7 sets of Road 5's, one set of Road 6's, one set of GT's, one set of Metzeler SE 01's, a set of Battlax's in the last 4 years and always return to Road 5's, they just feel better to me.
Mine hasn't whereas the Road5 did. Like the Road6, lasting well but as always the dilemma of swapping out part worn tyres for new ones ahead of a continental trip looms. Haven't noticed significant lack of grip over the Road5s myself.
I'm more interested in a good touring tire than ultimate grip. I don't ride anywhere near the edge of the performance on this, or any other bike I've owned !!
For every tyre manufacturer named, you will have fan boys and detractors, it’s a fact of life. This article is relatively current, https://www.motorcyclenews.com/bike-kit/tyres/sports-touring-tyres/ which gives you a broad choice. Andy
I have Road 5 and Road 6s on my 1250GS and they have been superb. The Road 6 have not skipped even when at fairly extreme lean angles and speed, including in very wet conditions. The Metzeler 01 were as good when I had them on a 1200 DVT Multistrada.
Happy tyre decision making !! I did try the Michelin Road 6 but did not get on with them really. I found the profile for the 170/60/17 rear to be more sporty than I needed - resulting in a lot of unused rubber and large(ish) chicken strips that I could not get rid of ! I did consider the Angel GT2 - they seem to be a bit more expensive - not sure why. Not a deal breaker, but I would not have the Michelin Road 6 again. I seem to remember they were quite light and you could feel that going from heavy dual sport tyres Personally very happy with the Metzeler 01 SE - nothing to complain about at all. But just feel like giving these Roadsmart IV a go
There is some truth to that !! Anyway, I put Dunlops on my R1, out of the showroom, ace they were. Dunlop tyres have a pretty good record at the Isle of Man TT as well.
@pcn1 Angel GT'2s or Michelin Road 6? I've been very pleased with the Angels but I'm also a fair weather rider. I've read just about every tyre thread on this forum and there's a clear consensus in favour of the Michelin Road series. That can't be discounted as you guys in the UK have wet roads where the Michelin's are known to excel.
...and maybe the superbike which those tyres are wrapped around plus that dude perched on top of it may have helped a little bit too.
Of course - but the riders could have chosen something else and been successful ? - Pirelli - Michelin - Bridgestone - Metzeler. Dunlop on Dunlops (my picture copyright !)
I'm going to go with the Road 6. Asked my tire guy to get them ready for fitting when I'm back from holiday mid March. Then its cam belt service time early April, and hello summer
