Frame Refinishing

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by Butch890, Feb 19, 2024.

  1. 12 Years ago I rebuilt the 890 and had the frame refinished in red ,looked great but now very dated!
started stripping her down yesterday with a view of going back to the original gold, does anyone know of anywhere that does the Original satin gold powdercoat?

  2. Triple S Coating in Bingley. Guy told me he has the correct colour.

  3. Triple S never answer their phones or respond to emails. Also check out their Google reviews = a right mixed bag. I also used Aerocoat years back and they couldnt match the colour on the 996 wheels I sent them and they came back much lighter :(

I had my M900 frame done locally in the end (gloss black) and for the money it was ok but PC chips if you are not careful too.

  4. There are lots of threads on a number of Ducati Forums about this subject
I don't believe anyone has found powder coat to match
I did my 748 myself a year ago. Took it back to bare metal with wire brushes
Used RS bike paints for the correct bronze and lacquer. If you haven't got spray gun etc they supply it in aerosols

  5. I just did mine with RS aerosol. I didn't use their primer or their lacquer but chose to use HYCOTE etch primer and Matt lacquer to keep the cost down. It all worked out really well. I needed 2 cans of bronze for a 916 frame and subframe.

  6. I reckon it's probably better to use aerosols...I did one recently with a proper paint gun...it was a pain in the ass to get into all the nooks and crannies of the frame.

  7. I bought a new small gun for the job and for a future job on a car

  8. That was exactly my thought. I'm no expert anyway but the aerosol worked out better than expected.
