Wonder how Yamaha’s entry will carry on in the future with the announcement of the end of the R1? They say they will carry on producing the bike for racing but if it’s no longer a “production bike” then how does that qualify for homologation?
I think that there's something like a 2-year out of production limit. There was a mention in the Philip Island race commentary about the R6 being in it's final year of racing or summat.
They have another 4 years before homologation expires. I have a feeling WSBK as we know it now, won’t be the same by then. Andy
It will be the Ducati Tri-options WSBK championship within 4 years, because they are the only ones who can produce and sell a superbike, and justify developing it… it’s not their fault but is reality. in general in bike racing I think we are seeing that if you don’t have a V4 you will struggle, so Yamaha, Kawasaki if they don’t already have V4’s on test beds they will struggle. I get the R1 was supposed to simulate a V4 but it doesn’t, and has to give too much power away to balancers etc
