Hi - New multistrada owner.... first problem I need help with! I've bought a used multistrada in a private sale. When I went to view the bike the battery was dead, but the guy jump-started it with a booster pack. The bike was immediately doing funny stuff, like ABS fault, engine management light, DTC fault, etc. and the odometer was also showing in KM and displayed as 99,999KM. We changed the odometer to miles and it was still showing 99,999miles. They guy put the bike on the charge, took it for a spin the next day and all the faults, etc. cleared, except for the wrong mileage. I checked the bike history and the was an MOT from just a few months ago showing the mileage as 27,000 and the bike was advertised as having 29,000, so it all seemed to check out. (Perhaps foolishly) I bought the bike anyway, presuming that it might sort itself out, or worst case it would be an easy fix. I have fully charged the battery, had it for a few days, took it for a spin or two, and it is still showing 99,999 (both miles and km). Is this a common problem, and does anybody have any trouble-shooting suggestions that I could try before taking it to Ducati? The bike is a 2010 'non-S' with ABS. There are a few extras like heated grips, spot-lights, etc. wired up to the bike too (not sure if that is relevant). Battery is showing 13.2V on the Oximiser Here are a few photos, might help...
Thanks. I read that, but I also read that pre-2013 the milage is only stored on the dash, so the comments about re-flashing to the BBS milage isn't relevant to my bike? I'm starting to feel like I might have to buy a new dash unit!
Like others, I had my dash replaced under warranty some years ago because of an intrinsic fault (mine is a MY2010). So it is technically feasible, however this seems to me a dealer's job. Also, in the second photo you have posted here the DTC is off - which is default in the early models after a battery disconnection. This type of dash is sealed. There is no easy way to access the circuit board other than cutting it apart. Reading the chip is easy but you would need to find someone who knows how to calculate the checksum to store the odometer reading in memory. When I took that I had been messing about disconnecting the battery, etc to see if it would clear itself. I'll give me local dealer a shout too to see if it's something that they're able to sort out. Has anybody had to buy a new dash (ie not replaced under warranty)? I'm wondering how much that might end up costing me!
Just had a quick look at prices, about £800 for a new dash but it only lists years 2011,2012 so not sure if they are the same.
Have you any idea where the best place is to pick these up? Was that £800 from Ducati directly? I'll give it a bit of a google and see what I can find. Give myself a few days to brace myself in case it come to that.
I’ve always used Ducati Coventry (JHP) for ordering parts, they are usually the cheapest and their service is excellent.
Not sure if this is any help but with an OBDStar diagnostics tablet and what looks like the additional Odometer Adjustment licence it might be possible. You'd need to make enquiries first to be sure. Contact BMDiag, from the first link, they're usually very helpful. If that's a workable solution it'll be cheaper than a new dash and at the end you'd have the useful OBDStar in your toolkit. Is there an easy way to find the part number for a non-s, but with ABS, dash unit? It might help me while searching. I've seen on her about how software can be used to roll-on milage. As my bike is quite high miles (29,000) it means that so long as I could get a second hand dash with sub-29,000 miles, then I could roll it forward to the correct mileage and use it.
