Hi All. I bought this bike on impulse really, the price was ok, it was local and I liked the carbon fibre. I've has loads of Ducati's in the past and still have a Darmah SSD so its not totally alien, but I've never had this model before. It has some great features. The tank and seat panels have been carbon fibre overlaid which would cost a fortune to get done. The frame wheels etc paint is in great condition. It just needs a bit more work to get it to the next level. Thought might document it here and hopefully get the technical help should I need it.
The fairing lowers turned out to be pattern. I've never been a fan of the full fairing so took the saw to it. I like the look but decided to go for original half fairing panels.
Anyone..... Looking at the clip-on bars and master cylinders do you think it was a Dark model? I picked up a pair of carbon heel guards yesterday to continue the theme.
I think it probably isn’t an SSie exactly but is a 900 Sport ie due to the steel swingarm and non adjustable forks. If it was black originally it would have been satin black. I haven’t seen an ie with coffin style reservoirs and old style levers (grub screw adjusters), as even the later carby 900ss came with double “tupperware” reservoirs, and ie came with the 4 position dial reach adjusters. Either changed out by a previous owner for some reason or an import and that was the spec in that country?
It certainly appears to be a dark model, non adjustable suspension. Not sure if those clip ons are original either, the brakes certainly arent. They were only fitted to early carb models they swapped about 95 to the round reservour ones.
Thanks for that. Yes I checked the service book and it was put as a 900S FF my knowledge about this bike is growing every day! I removed the cheap alarm and the tracker immobiliser as it was disconnected from the battery anyway and meant I could tidy up the loom again, no more insulation tape. Thanks to Rman for the spare clutch plate FOC. I fitted new timing belts, carbon belt covers a prettier pressure plate and springs. I dropped the fairing off for a Carbon look hydro dip, so lets see how that comes out?
Heres a new old stock bike for sale, steel swing arm and clip ons. Looks like this was my spec. only the master cylinders differ.
Ah, cool. I had a 'Senna' SSie and it had different clip ons, thats why I thought they werent OE. Masters are available on ebay or new from plenty of suppliers. Although to be fair, the 'coffin' style arent that bad
I'm haemorrhaging money on this so I'll stick with what I have for now, though I had to repaint the brake lid and both bars, they came our ok though.
