2005 ZX10R should I break it or sell it complete?

  1. Ok, I've got a 2005 ZX10R C2 which I've owned from new and hardly ever ride now so it's got to go to make space in the garage and probably fund another toy but I can't make up my mind whether to break it and bung everything on Ebay or stick it up for sale with a new mot ticket.

It's been messed about with a bit and has Harris clip ons & rearsets (plus the originals somewhere), Dymag magnesium wheels plus originals, Akropovic evo full titanium exhaust plus the original, carbon airbox, Brembo radial front master cylinder, Power Commander, braided hoses and a steering damper of some description. If I break it I'll almost certainly get more than flogging it complete or I can strip all the bling off it and sell it then sell the complete bike or just bite the bullet and take what I can but avoid the hassle.

It's a beast of a machine and the last time it saw a dyno it was putting out 178hp (150 standard) plus it's a bit flighty on roads which makes it a riot to ride but I've only used it for occasional trackdays and the Isle of Man for the last 3 years so it's just dead money sitting in the garage. According to my friendly local Kawasaki dealer I should keep it because they're going up in value but I'd sooner have something that I want to ride.

Come on then, push me one way or the other

  2. Sell it.....to me  Seriously, you will probably make more money by returning it to, as standard as you can make it, and selling all the clip on stuff. Major pita the break the whole thing down as you'll be left with random bits lying around. Its also a modern classic, especially if its green :upyeah:

  3. If it was green I probably wouldn't sell it. It's that nasty titanium colour they used for a couple of years and I had a choice of that or wait for the next model which I wasn't prepared to do because I wanted one of the original ones.

It'll always go down as something of a classic because it was such a leap from the 9R to the 10R with one being a lardy touring bike and the other being a bit of a monster when first released but I kept the 9R I owned before it because it was such an easy bike to ride long distances.

  4. if youve the inclination and motivation id break it if i was you
i broke my race bike and got £2500.00 more for it in bits than i was hoping to get sold complete!

  5. Sell it. There are far better things to be doing than breaking it. Then its gone, no hassle dealing with fucktards on fleebay

  6. Shame to break it

  7. As above but back to std , sell the bling at your leisure.

  8. It seems the general opinion is the one I'm leaning towards which is sell it complete. I'll probably take the exhaust off along with the wheels, master cylinder & PC but leave the bars and footrests on it because the standard ones seem to go for a fair bit when sold as seperate parts whereas the Harris ones which are miles better just don't fetch even half of the new cost. Breaking always makes more money overall but I'm essentially a lazy bastard and work away from home all week so weekends are premium time for me.

I remembered after I'd made the original post that I took the bigger airbox off and returned the airbox and injectors to standard because it made the power come in with a rush at the top of the rev range and on the road it was a real pig to ride

Time to get to work then see what the interest is like.

  9. How much would it be complete? I've considered replacing my 999s with one as I prefer track riding these days....

  10. Assuming you'd want everything so you've got a 2nd set of wheels (they don't have discs on them) I'll have to have a think about it and let you know. The seat is cracked so I was going to get it plastic welded and sprayed but if you only wanted it as a track bike you'd probably want to fit a cheaper set of plastics anyway so that might not matter? There's a brand new set of R&G crash bungs in a packet that'll go with it as well, I keep remembering bits and pieces I've got lying about.

It won't be cheap because of what I'd get if I removed the bling but if you're really interested I'm pretty sure we can find a price we're both only slightly unhappy about.

  11. Listen to Troy, unless you are happy to have 'its got a scratch on it, I want my money back' from fucktards who cant read or see a pic and insist everything cheap is still like new, I'd not bother

  12. I've had the fun of Ebay dull heads before both buying and selling and it's hard work at times. Autotrader is better but you still get dealers phoning to offer less than webuyanyshite.com as soon as the advert goes up.

  13. Im sure one of us would be more than happy to take it off your hands. No need to worry with MCN, Autotrader and Fleabay :upyeah:

  14. Get some pics posted

  15. I'll get some photos of it posted but it won't be this weekend because I'm heading home tomorrow evening then straight off to Gedinne on Friday morning for a long weekend of classic road racing. Expect some beer fuelled photos of the racing appearing over the weekend with comments about how you're all missing out :upyeah:

  16. Yeah get some pics up so we can have a gander...

  17. Id definitely sell it. Ive a couple of bikes in my collection ive been meaning to sell for years and just never got around to it, now they are worth literally nothing. Ones worth even less mind you as i forgot to drain the fuel out of it and now it wont start as the old fuel has gummed all the carbs up.

Id strip all the bling off it and sell that seperately. A lot of people prefer to buy a standard "non messed with" bike, and then they go out & buy the bits they want for it. Sure they may end up turning the bike into something like it is now, but they prefer to know what they have done and do it themselves.

  18. How much would you want for it as is?

  19. I'll get some pictures up so everyone can have a look.

My plan was to get the seat unit sprayed and it's got one green fairing panel after I threw it on its side in a French car park at about 10mph and another matching green panel waiting to be sprayed with it. The reason for doing both sides is that they're drilled for the same crash bungs as I've got sitting around and I'd then let the extra silver panel go with the bike as a spare. I've had a price of £300 given to me to spray it and repair the seat and having odd panels and a cracked seat would drop the price by more than that. If someone wanted it purely as a track bike then I'd haggle on the price to avoid the hassle of getting it done.

The seat was damaged when the bike was only a couple of weeks old and it went over after the sidestand dug into some tarmac and I've never bothered getting it repaired. I had a full set of spare plastics from a bike that went straight onto the track but a friend 'borrowed' them after a bodged spray job and then wrecked the bike in a 100mph crash on the Isle of Man

Price? I'll have a think about it while I drink beer this weekend.

  20. Price wise, depending on spec and if v5, I've just bought a k6 and paid a little over the odds at 4500, incl WOW with discs and another spare rear with disc, loads spares, 3 spares fairings, HM QS, QA throttle, Ohlins rear, KTech SBK dork conversion, all the crash protection, samco hoses, PC3

Looked at base ZX10r similar age at 2500-4k dep on spares etc
