Any recommendations for armoured denims? Just returned a pair of Roadskin as they bunched up behind my knees making them uncomfortable on the bike (Monster) I don't want loose fit as I would like armour to stay in place if the worst happens.
Which style ? I have 2 pairs of their Elite and haven’t had that issue. You could look at Rokker, https://www.eu.therokkercompany.com/collections/men-jeans, my girlfriend loves hers. Andy
I have some RST armoured Jeans. They fit me well. I guess it's more a matter what fits than anything else.
I’ve found Knox to be faultless for, I’ve a few of their gloves, a mesh jackets and mesh trousers. Generally wear the armoured mesh jeans and jacket under other garments and if warm enough without.
I use Alpinestars armoured denim, which I find tough, flexible and warm I’d recommend is trying them on before buying. I bought a pair of Held jeans off the internet during lockdown, they are the most expensive and uncomfortable jeans I’ve ever owned. They simply won’t bend and when they do they cut into you. As a result they are spending the rest of their lives in the wardrobe
Resurgence are my favourite, had 2 pairs of the skinny fit cafe racer ones for years..they also do a slim fit. Most are like jodhpurs, puff out at the waist to compensate for the armour, too baggy and flap about, The new Oxford slim fit ones are OK … for the price.
Myself and girlfriend have Rokker tech jeans. Great fit on and off the bike. Rokker do a few different styles which have a variety of fits. We got ours from Motolegends in Guildford, they have extensive stock and really take the time to ensure you leave satisfied, even if that means you don't buy anything... which I've never done
I use Hood SK11 - AAA rated jeans, fit really well and the srmour stays in place etc. These are fully lined with K-tech Para-aramid protective lining. I don't find them to be too hot on a summers day either, and personally find them more reasurring than a single layer jean.
Do as others have said and go try a few pairs on. They really do differ so much from brand to brand and style to style. They’re not cheap either. Fwiw I’ve just bought a pair of slim fit RST’s but I have legs like maccies straws so it was a case of needs must really.
Single layer jeans are way more comfortable than the lined ones. I’ve got some Rokker ones that I got in a special Sunday offer from Motolegends a couple of years ago. Have a look at their website as they offer quite a lot of different styles and brands.
I bought a pair of lined Hood jeans in 2010. Purchased for a trip to the South of France thinking they would be cooler than leather. However, due to the lined design they were noticeably warmer and went straight back into my pannier and were sold on eBay on my return. Rokkertechs are a revelation in this regard and what I really needed back then, albeit single layer jeans didn't exist at the time. Worn throughout three continental tours so far, as well as quite a bit in the summer months in the UK. When away, combined with breathable unlined waterproofs and merino thermal layer as needed (rain and cold mornings/altitude), they make things very adaptable resulting in the best possible comfort both on and off the bike. We also both have Klim Marrakesh jackets for exactly the same reason. Of course, autumn, winter and spring I'll be wearing textiles or leathers. With our summer riding kit there is probably a slight trade off in protection I'll admit. Though I do consider comfort a safety benefit, especially on long consecutive days on the bike in warm weather, where overheating can be a significant issue/distraction.
I have a pair, really comfy and they fot over Sidi track boots. Don't fit over my Forma boots though. Don't wear them if you ride a 1299 though unless it is less than 20 degrees, they get a lot hotter than leather.
After trying about a dozen different brands, I’ve now settled on Rokker Legend straight cut (essential if you’re not a racing snake and have proper legs) jeans. They are a single layer jean, are extremely comfortable, and were absolutely brilliant on my trip to the south of France last summer. They’re not cheap, but if I add up all the money I’ve wasted, trying cheaper alternatives, I could probably have bought 3 pairs of these.
