I thought 93 would be closer to the front seeing as he’s been following pecco around for the last two years “learning how he rides the ducati”. Felt like the proverbial baton being passed when Pedro passed him (albeit for a couple of laps only). Pecco is just a class above on Sundays which makes me very happy.
Very classy overtake early in the race. MM, I am just not sure, Gresini set-up, old injuries, fitness…or just the quality of the new kids on the block. Plenty time yet but the 3 podium finishers looked a cut above. And the rookie passing him like he was track debris
I did get a bit fed up with hearing the name Acosta all the time from the commentary. Glad when Simon Crafar put them straight and said that he was using up his tyres to gain places - then sure enough he started dropping down the order once he had used up his tyres.
I did read your post before. I don't doubt his ability - I just think the commentary were almost having an orgasm as Acosta climbed through the places - like they lost their minds with the excitement of it. It was Simon Crafar that brought the commentary back to reality.
Yep. Fair. More fawning to come each time MM gets in the top 3 also. They seem to forget how many top riders are out there these days, with minimal difference in lap times.
22 starters, 16 italian/Spanish riders who, with the exception of Binder, took the top 10 places. its in danger of becoming like the American "world" events which only the Americans play. I expect Jack will go next year, there is no British motoGP rider in the wings even in Moto3 Jake is good but he falls off, he said last year i am just as quick as Acosta.... but Acosta doesnt fall off jake. The sad part is most countries ,like the UK, dont have a feeder class like the Asia talent cup and the Red bull rookies but not one UK rider in either last year. We have great riders, anyone who can lap the island at 136mph is not lacking anything, its just a shame moto GP is so closed shop
Like a dog with a new bone aren’t they although I suppose it must be nice for them to have something different to talk about rather than contracts and marc marquez on a ducati. I cant remember who said it on comms but I found myself nodding sagely – Pecco doesn’t get the respect he deserves (and ive been guilty of it too). Back to back world champion and a class act to boot (even though some knobhead on the internet will say hes not a character). Hes answered every single question thrown at his talent and then some and among the greats of bike racing with back to back titles. This truly is the golden generation with the likes of Martin, Pedro and the like (Fabio’s still only 24 ffs). Don’t think ive ever seen a stronger or closer grid in the time ive been watching Moto GP. Bodes well for an incredible season.
What TT rider do you think would compete on that grid? I cant think of one that would come anywhere near. It is a shame theres so few brits this year (especially after 96 threw himself at the skies) but it didnt spoil the spectacle, or it didnt for me at least.
I have to admit I thought it would be a Ducati that would win the championship. But Binder finished second in both races yesterday, he also qualified well. If the Ducati riders keep taking points away from each other all season, as is likely, then who is going to challenge Binder? It certainly doesnt look like Miller will deplete his points significantly, if at all during the season. Aprilia, not sure what went on yesterday, did they run a different tyre compound to the top bikes? We probably need to see a few different tracks anyway, as some bikes shine at different kinds of circuit.
Not really a fair comparison, road racing today is an entirely unique discipline, the days of Agostini and Hailwood are long gone. IMO, the bikes have a very different focus and set up. Wasn’t that long ago VR visited the TT and said they (road racers) are all mad Not sure what or if there is an answer and Stuart Higgs tinkering with the BSB and support races isn’t helping. Andy
I thought it was great watching Binder drafting past Martin on the start finish straight for a good number of laps and watching Jorge turn the bike in all sorts of directions trying to hold him off into turn 1. Must be where he did a lot of his tyre life and fair play to BB because it looked a deliberate tactic even to a buffoon like me. Fabio, top Jap bike too. Again, not enough respect given to keep doing that when his heart must be in his shoes with 10 months of the season to go. Poor sod.
Supposedly the riders have been told not to talk about the tyres in a bad light this year, but already Aleix has said that his rear tyre in the second race was shite.
