When I used to take my spaniel to the vets I got f'ing pig sick of the constant upselling during the visits.
Lots. Not done much lead work as it’s so wet everywhere and I feel bad making him walk right on a lead when the whole world is a new smell or experience still. Going to get a slip lead and do some from next week as he is getting bigger and stronger and missus is already struggling
Apart from the occasional really hard he’s loving the raw food diet (90/10). And his coat is like silk.
You can't feel bad for them because they will take advantage you need to be a strong pack leader with them. For walking well his treat would be an off lead experience then back on Get a harness they are much better and carry a ball as anything they love they will stick by you. You gotta be a pack leader otherwise you will become a follower and have an anxious dog barking at anything and everything
That won’t ever change. Every single walk will always be a new adventure. Iggy still carries on as if we’re off to Doggy Disneyland even if we are just going for a quick walk around the village. Nothing I or two dog trainers have tried with Iggy have made the slightest bit of difference to his pulling (and believe me, we have tried). He’s slightly better when he’s on a neck collar rather than a harness, but every walk consists of him virtually spreadeagled, like when the contestants have to pull a lorry up a hill in The World’s Strongest Man competition, with me leaning back and the lead taut as if I’m taking part in the tug-of-war round. I’m sure he’s part husky…..I should just get a sled or a pair of roller skates and let him pull me everywhere.
Interesting, my little moo has been moved over to the raw diet just this week due to fairly major skin irritations. How long did it take to kick in?
Days tbh. He was on kibble one meal, 3 raw for a week, now he's been raw only and treats for last 2. We supplement with half banana, few blueberries, small amounts of veg (as treats). Makes his interesting colours.... But he does have days where his first of the day he squeals trying to get it out. That was beef mixture so we are not letting him have that as too rich, so chicken and turkey mainstays now with some salmon mix. You'll probably notice they do a lot less. I mean a lot! He would go once an hour (pretty much) all waking hours where now he goes twice first thing (within 10 min of each other), one mid afternoon then one before bed and the volume is far less. Research i did suggests its because they digest the food better and the nutrients stay in the body so not as much waste On kibble he would have several goes at eating. On this he's begging for it and we now use a slow feeder. We do have a good local raw provider where we went and got advice and give them feedback each week when we go back and they suggest diet changes
I'll not get into a discussion about raw vs Mixed diet. Both are fine in my book (we feed a mix of raw/kibble/tinned wet). Remember though, they need some grains for the Methionine (Amino acid) that enables them to 'harvest' the Taurine from their diet. Taurine's the Amino acid that's essential for the avoidance of 'Dilated Cardiomyopathy', and for general heart health. We also add a daily dose of Salmon oil (Omega 3) for joint care and coat.

One of the raw's I have has got oily fish in which is good but didnt think about the other side of things from grain so again good shout, thank you
Yep. They love to guilt trip you into additional tests and treatments. I’m really pissed off that when Iggy was very ill with recurring bloody diarrhoea last autumn (which was making him very thirsty and needing to pee all the time) Vets4Pets barked up the wrong tree by initially testing for kidney and liver failure. It was only when his dog walker said that she suspected Giardia and I passed that suggestion onto the vet, that they tested for it and it came back positive. Then, as if to add insult to injury, they prescribed 3 days of Panacur at half dosage to be repeated after 3 weeks, but charged £30 for 25ml when OTC, it costs c.£20 for 100ml. In other words, they split the treatment in two AND charged 6 times the usual price for it.
Quartered it the robbing gits. I can see now why my mates Daughters are going into the veterinary profession rather than becoming NHS Dr like their Father. Better pay and hours…..
When my Kenny was diagnosed with arthritis they wanted £95 for each librela jab and a £30 consultancy every month he went to get the jab. I got a repeat prescription which instead cost me £240 for 6 months worth of librela online and I jab him myself on the first of every month now (the vets did give me free needles!!). You cant blame them though really theyre all getting striped up by some shitbag landlord, like the rest of the modern day high street.
We have been feeding a lot of chicken and salmon mix for this reason. Only thing he hasn’t been keen on is haddock. Nor was I tbh, his breath stank of fish!
