Been keeping my eye out for a last minute home stay on fb is it me or have prices gone through the roof since I was there 4 years ago? Not very welcoming when you see people charging £300 a night for a studio apt and dare I say totally off putting. I paid £35 a night with brekkie included at a farmhouse the last time I was there.
Problem is, too many people are prepared to pay that sort of price, however galling and greedy it might seem to you and I. As long as demand outstrips supply, that's what you are going to get. I haven’t been to the island since the mid 1970’s and I’m not planning a return trip in the time I have left on this earth. Andy
Yeh you’re right Andy just a shame things always seem to get spoiled by greed (see also the price of watching your football team). World supers it is for me this year then and that’s about it.
Those couple of years without booking have to be clawed back somehow. All the accommodation that was reasonable pre Covid has got a little bit crazy since. Add inflationary pressures and a little bit of greed and there you are sadly.
There are always the smaller venues ,Olivers Mount and Abedare park spring to mind on the mainland ,and then there are some off the Irish venues at the moment still running ,and of course the NW 200 ,
Its nuts. I was actually looking at moving there pre covid and at the same time my move to the peaks fell through. House prices have gone through the roof over there since. Pretty much south east of England prices now. Greed x inflation x tourist attraction etc.. Sad, but it had to happen eventually I guess.
I last went to the TT in 2019 - not sure I will go again ( been three time in all). Now I watch it on the big screen at work, on TT Plus - just plug in my laptop ......
I think it has happened due to pressure from from both ends - I know a lot of people where covid and poor investment returns have made them think stuff it, spend the money and enjoy myself while I can, bikers average age continues to grow and many are retired with decent disposable income and this means there are people willing and able to pay more than I ever have. I think people’s expectations have also changed, last time I went it was a tent in a field and pee in the hedge when the pub loos weren’t open. I think the options for cheap stays have reduced as there has been an increase in people expecting more comfort. Not sure that the pub pee in the hedge stays would happen any more. The classic TT seems better value for money but increasing as well.
