V4 Oops Oil Level

  1. So like an idiot I’ve overfilled the oil (see photo). Would you people drain some out or just leave it?

  2. Ive run at that on my 959 with no issues - its not a V4 though and might equate to less overall oil being a twin

for sure better a little over than under

  3. The advice I got from the workshop, was better to run nearer the bottom mark than above the high mark. Andy

  4. Syringe with a bit of pipe will take that out if it concerns you, it wouldn't bother me though.

  5. Did the same.

Advised by Ducati Aylesbury not to worry too much if oil isn't completely filling the window.
Besides, leaving the bike stationary for several weeks results in the oil level slowly going up ( even more than in your photo). I just run the engine for some time to get it back down .

  6. Thanks is there a way to draw it out or do I have to drain the sump plug slightly?

  7. Syringe with a bit of fuel pipe on the end, poke it down the filler hole and draw it out, I bet it's only 100ml, or less, over.

  8. Just take the bike out for a proper spank. That’ll burn the excess off.

  9. That wouldn't bother me. It'll soon reduce if you ride it hard enough.

  10. That amount over is very small in terms of oil. I wouldn’t worry

  11. I’ve tried this- no joy on a V4. I heard there are baffles preventing this.

I ended up cracking open the sump plug for a second. Easy enough… The gasket washers are good for a couple of torque ings… I’ve just made up a word :D

  12. Mine’s done 5,000 miles at quite a lick and only used 300 ml of oil. So that wouldn’t do it

  13. Absolutely fine

  14. My scrambler did a little oil wee out the breather when it was over filled on my scrambler

  15. That’s exactly what I’d expect, the Panigale V4 on track is notorious for pressurising the crankcase and releasing oil out of the breather when it’s overfilled. Andy
