Best fuel

  1. I have been running my Hypermotard 1100 Evo SP on shell V-Power fuel the last tank full I used normal fuel, bike seems to run rougher with normal fuel am I just imagining the bike seem smother and more responsive with the V-Power.

  2. Not really. I used to get slightly better fuel economy too.

  3. asda its the cheapest:upyeah:

  4. I use V Power in my Busa and I get a good extra 30 miles to the tank not to mention the smoother running. I always avoid super market fuel as this I am told is the end of line fuel. I was getting noticeably less miles per tank in my car using Tesco filling stations as compared to BP, Shell etc, was told by a fuel technician that the supermarket fuel is the dregs essentially hence why they can discount it so heavily, in addition to this the combustion rate is quicker for whatever reasons. Whether this was factual or not sort of explained my question as to why I was getting less mileage. For me I tend to stick with V Power not because the adverts look good, but because I feel and notice the difference.

  5. I've driven and rode with both normal and higher grade fuels to see if there is any difference. Cant say I noticed a damn thing other than a higher cost for the higher/premium grade fuels.

I'm sure there must be a technical difference but my guess is that the greater difference is "marketing".

  6. Placebo effect?

  7. think long term benifits, various engine components egr and dpf for start off, more so for cars, why isint there some kind of offical statistic on this.

  8. I remain to be convinced about the benefits of higher grade fuels, particularly when it comes to petrol.

Honest John says that certain diesel fuels are better than others with improved additives that make a difference over the life of the engine.

I think there is something in the idea that there are bad batches of fuel however as I have occasionally noticed poor running immediately after filling up.

  9. Marketing is a powerful tool.

Why else would you drink Coca Cola and pay such an exorbitant price for the priviledge?

  10. Cars with engines set up for high octane petrol and that are fitted with knock sensors will give lower performance on normal fuel. I run my track 996 on high octane as it sounds like a bag of hammers on normal stuff.

  11. Always use v power

  12. I always try to use V-Power too. Better miles and the bike runs much better I've found. BP if I can't find a Shell.

Recently had a bit of an issue with fuel I put in the company van from a morrisons too. Usually I use Shell or BP, just the normal stuff. Have used supermarkets before with no problem but this stuff was terrible. Van didn't run well and did about 400 to the tank whereas it normal does about 500+. It was reflected in the distance to empty display too next fill up, usually says about 530 when full, read 450 next top up :( Not sure how that thing works but it has slowly recovered back up so guess it runs an average? Anyway, back to normal again now but that's all the proof I need to not go near supermarket stuff again and absolutely never in the bike!

  13. Christ you damned fool ,don't mention that in any way anywhere or we'll have Pete 1950 turning up.

P.S. Stick a cupful of avgas in to raise octane level , works a treat.

  14. Did I hear my name called?

A mate of mine filled the tank of his Aprilia (which had been running perfectly) at a fuel stop in Thurrock, and after a few miles it began running worse and worse. Eventually half way to Harwich it packed up completely and he had to call recovery. I had to leave him and go on to catch the ferry. His fuel injectors, pump and the tank were found to be clogged with dirt which had apparently come from that batch. Petrol tanks at fuel stations need to be properly kept, usually are, but sometimes are not - regardless of brand.

  15. I have heard that its best not to fill your tank when a tanker is filling the underground tanks as any deposits in those tanks can be stirred up

  16. Sorry, but bollox!

  17. Did anyone see the test on 5th gear where they put a golf Gti on the Dyno and ran it with all the different premium fuels. No normal and super were very similar not worth paying the extra for asda fuel was very similar again then they tried esso ultra and got 5 more bhp and she'll had one more bhp than the esso if I remember correctly

  18. The main advantage at the moment in running the Super fuels is that most of them are either ethanol free or contain lower amounts of ethanol. I would rather pay a few pence extra per litre and save hundreds in replacing components and even tanks later on.

  19. mate of mine is a tanker driver
he says that supermarket and branded fuels are basically the same just that branded ones have extra additives in mixed in
not an expert so don't know but have noticed difference in running asda diesel makes my car smoke quite a bit unlike shell

  20. Our 40 or so company diesel vehicles all do over 1000 miles a week each, they have all been tried on the more expensive fuels to test the claims about better efficiency over a month, so about 5 or 6 re-fills, on average there was no change from the cheaper supermarket fuel.
