KTM now owns 50.1% of MV and wants another team on the MotoGP grid. In 2027 MotoGP regs change and the rumour is KTM aims to put an MV team on the grid. There’s even talk of MM93 on board. After the Liberty news last week you wonder what else could happen.
Is there a bike left on the grid that hasnt been talked about with him on board ? Seriously though he will be 35 years old in 2027 i wonder what the motivation there would be as its clear hes only still riding to win races and that elusive last title.
I would honestly prefer for him to retire at the end of this season. He may well win a couple of races but a title is beyond him at this point in his previously successful career.
I doubt very much this will be his last, the carrots dangling too close to his nose now. I agree hes definitely not winning a title on the gresini though!
Not every rider gets a chance to compete, look at someone like Taka. Still finds the motivation to turn up every weekend though (and yes i get he gets paid a lot to do so). MM93 on the other hand has already said he would retire (or words to that effect) if he wasnt able to compete for podiums and titles. Marc Marquez "cannot imagine" being in Rossi's current MotoGP position (autosport.com)
I think it all depends where you are in your riding career. At the beginning you ride any bike in the series to get a start. When you are on the way up, you change to a better team/ bike when you get the chance. Once you are a proven champion, you ride to win, or you just for personal fun up until your contract isn't renewed. I have no problem with teams cashing in on having a famous (way past their peak) rider for sponsorship and maybe feedback development (Rossi). But is that better than a committed rider who wants to win (Marquez)? Its a business, and there are different ways to go about it.
