V4 Iconic Sat Nav Broken

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by ymfb, Mar 23, 2024.

  1. Today, my Garmin, Touratech, Iconic bracket assembly snapped as I was riding along. Luckily no collateral damage.

It has always wobbled and I suggest the Touratech lockable bracket makes it worse.

The position is perfect for viewing the SatNav, but is probably inherently wobbly as it fits to the screen assembly.

What else have people fitted to their V4 Multistrada to mount a Gamin XT ?

Does anyone have an unwanted Iconic bracket?

Please dont bother suggesting using the Sygic built in Nav.

  2. Give Iconic a call. They will replace it and they also have a metal plate option.

  3. I have contacted Iconic and they are sending replacement “wings” but I have also bought Sicilians Evotech so I will have choice.

  4. I'm sure I've seen on the Iconic Facebook page they are working on a combined screen mount/ sat nav mount so you replace the whole thing. I've not used the original plastic sat nav mounts as I ordered the "off road" brackets after feed back on this forum.

  5. I never get a response from them, only if I continuously chase. My last order was missing parts and I never heard back. I know it's a home business, but it still leaves a sour taste and I've been stung several times with incomplete orders or faulty parts. For the most part, their screen riser 3D printed parts work good.

Evotech on the other hand, top notch quality and packaging every time, I have the Evotech GPS mount (for my Zumo XT) for my 1260 and it's been flawless on the 3 Multi's I've installed it on.

  6. I use the Iconic Mount - now with metal parts as the plastic ones broke - twice, service can be slow but the product is good. When mine broke I got an Evotech mount whilst waiting for the parts. The Evotech mount will NEVER break it is solid steel, heavy and a bit ugly (IMO), also it upsets the aerodynamics of the screen. I noticed a lot more noise with the Evotech mount as it is in the way of the slot in the screen on the V4, once the ICONIC bits arrived and were back on the bike then it was much quieter. Just an FYI :).

  8. Thanks @hill100. Its was a pleasure speaking with you.

Our small team is here to help where we can. This particular product is very popular and we have had some comments recently about failing plastic parts. We have identified an issue with the material we use for these parts but we moved to a new supplier or the material a while ago and its only now we seem to be seeing some failures.

If anyone is concerened we will be happy to send out replacments.

  9. @Jamie Clare hi, I phoned a few days ago and spoke with a lady who offered to send replacement “wings” will they be the new stronger material or the same as before?

    thanks.

  10. @Jamie Clare the replacement parts just arrived, thanks.

  11. Good afternoon Jamie, today after reading these posts, I checked my support, and I found that one of the two plastic sides was starting to crack. I understand that it is NOT the fault of the manufacturing, since they have been used for more than two years and 30 thousand km, so this is NOT a warranty claim, quite the contrary, delighted with their service and with the material purchased, I believe that it has It was the fault of the fact that I carry a 6.5-inch rugged mobile phone and it weighs a lot, and that and the passing of the km and the inclemencies, since the original material has naturally worn out, even so, I would buy it again tomorrow.

I have placed an order with you today for the off road wings, which from what I understand are metal, so that this does not happen to me again, and I hope to have them in time for an upcoming trip through Germany that will begin on May 10 , I think I have plenty of time to have it (is that right?)

The order is placed by Jose Manuel H. from Arroyomolinos (Spain) with order number ending in xxxxx4900

Thank you very much for your help and attention

  12. After reading the posts above, I thought how unfortunate that was, I have the Iconic bracket and hadn’t had a problem. Fast forward a couple of days, went to take the Multi out and there was the cradle resting on the handlebars. It had come away from both sides.
I called Iconic and they’ve posted replacement parts, explained the issue which has been noted above. I did also take the option to order replacement metal wings. The bracket is very well made, it’s just the XT2 is a little on the heavy side.

  13. As a precaution I've recently purchased from Iconic, the so called 'Off Road' mounting plates to replace the original 3D printed brackets which, from reports, have been prone to splitting when you have a Sat Nav such as the weighty Garmin XT2 mounted. With the cost of the Sat Nav's I didn't want to risk having the unit drop off whilst riding. You receive 2 replacement untreated stainless Steel Laser cut plates, 4 x Black 3D printed spacer bushes and some replacement bright stainless M5 bolts and nyloc nuts. (And a Cadbury's Cream Egg as it was purchased over Easter!)

As usual my OCD kicks in when the rest of the mount has been nicely powder coated Black but the new mounting plates , bolts and screws are silver. So out comes the rattle cans and all is now satin black plus all the nuts and bolts have been replaced with Black Stainless versions. Also replaced the 3D printed bushes with some turned aluminium ones more befitting to the assembly.
