Insurance Renewal Time - A Positive Tale.

Discussion in 'Insurance - Sponsored by Ducati Insurance' started by Android853sp, Aug 30, 2023.

  1. Just got my renewal notice through from IAMSurety (aka Cornmarket) which was very reasonable. Actual bike insurance hadn’t gone up although there was an increase in both my European recovery cover and their admin fee. The tale now gets a bit convoluted, I declared the car accident I had at the end of last year, and the write off settlement. Oh dear, the computer says NO, the Underwriter’s website won’t give a revised quote ! This is where the £40 arrangement fee was earned by the broker as he went off to talk to the Underwriter and convince him I’m an acceptable risk. A phone call and an email later, the Underwriter says YES, no problem and nothing extra to pay. Hoorah ! Sometimes you get the service you hope for. Well done Cornmarket. Andy

  4. Swapped my V2 Streetfighter for the incoming Hypermotard SP yesterday. Was expecting a rebate of some sort, as it’s a lower risk/ lower group, but alas no, as that was an additional bike not the main bike due to the lower value, so only costs a nominal additional fee to insure. Buggers still charged me a £35 admin fee.

  5. Swapped from BeMoto back to Carole Nash yesterday. BeMoto's renewal price hike had me shopping around. There were cheaper policies available but CN are a known entity to me, offer what I need and were keenly priced, £85 cheaper than BeMoto. Base cost before ins tax was £116 fully comp.

Tried to get BeMoto to price match but they refused. Apparently their underwriter doesn't favour larger capacity bikes any more.

  6. I've recently learned that you are basically uninsured if you go over your stated annual milleage. Kind of seems logical after getting over the initial shock to the system - where I am from, not a thing... You insure a thing, and you use it until renewal is due...

So I quoted 3K annual, and very likely to go over that. So I will see later if I call them, how much they will charge me for that.

  7. My renewal price hasn't gone up; phew.
Hello is that Powerhouse? Have you got any bronze anodised tat I can put on my GS? Let the modding begin(again)!

  8. Annual mileage has been used to assess your risk for a while now and yes, I’ve heard rumours of UK claims managers checking the mileage recorded on previous MoTs, although not if excess mileage was used to decline a claim. Andy

  9. An update to this positive tale, just added my Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak to my Multistrada 1200 insurance for the princely sum of £310 until the renewal in September ‘24. Have to say, I was expecting a lot more. Got stiffed with a £40 admin fee but that’s probably common to all insurance brokers. Andy

  10. Renewal time in May: currently with IAM (see above). Geriatric (70+) with full UK licence since a teenager, IAM car and bike, many years’ NCD (most companies stop at 9+) no claims, accidents or refusals. Streetfighter V4S with BikeTrac, Roadlok and Datatag, 1000 miles p.a.
Still coming out at approaching £1000! And increased from last year.
    Any alternatives found?

  11. Thats a fucker ive got one 1100 2x litre bikes and a 400...

  12. Since my original post, several people have found Cornmarket to be uncompetitive with a very ‘if you don’t like it, go elsewhere’ attitude and I’m not sure why. I’m with Aegis and the V4 Pikes Peak came in at £350 on a limited business policy. Andy

  13. Ageas? They’re only accessible via a broker (I was insured with them two years ago via Cornmarket). Who did you go through?

  15. Ironically, Cornmarket. Andy

  16. Ive stuck with Ramasis for a few years now and my premiums have steadily come down. No mention of a physical device, aside from the stock immobiliser and tracking device, needing to be utilized.

  17. Mine are all climbing North so i've been shopping around with every renewal notice that comes in. The classic Land Rover has been insured for the first time with a £76.00 premium / 1000miles per annum.

  18. I found out a factor today. Apparently the length of ownership counts. If the bike has only been owned a short time, that raises the premium, even if it’s an identical one to that owned previously.
And despite Datatag, Disklok, Biketrac and Asgard secure store, none of these attract any discount

  19. Interesting. It would explain the shock to my system when insuring brand new bike. I thought they all got mad. Used to pay £150 for my old GS, and all of a sudden the lowest was £700.. The GS was mine for about 11 years.

  20. Nope i don't agree as i think they've direct access to our bank account balances.:p
